If that was true Dermott would not be on our roster.
- VANTEL

I disagree.

Got to make the right moves and not rash moves.

I think the off season would be for a deal like Boeser. As they have said today on TSN. You build your team in offseason and tweak during the season. Brock and OEL are builders for a team. Unlikely to be a deadline move.

This is the fucking problem, if you keep supporting this crap you will get fed an endless supply of crap.
- A_SteamingLombardi

You go ahead & give up on the new regime after only a few months that’s your prerogative.

I agree but he’s cast there while others get more TOI they don’t deserve. This offseason something has to give. As of now he out produces Boeser & he’s cheaper. He drives play BB doesn’t. He’s feisty & goes into the dirty areas BB doesn’t. He’s a pesky agitator well BB isn’t. Just my thoughts.

Bit of a puck hog and struggles to finish. Also weak defensively

I agree, they are the only examples that keep getting over used when it comes to the "anything can happen once in the playoffs" crowd.
- Codes1087

‘82 Canucks more recently the ‘21 Habs. What it boils down to is do we like watching our team in the PO’s? Or it’s the cup or nothing crowd?

You are adding a lot more teams that are trying to build for the season not just a playoff run.

A lot more moving parts in the summer time.

For the life of me I don’t understand why you are so down on Dermott before he’s even played one game for the Nucks. Looking at his stats he seems like your typical 6/7/8 dman. Cheap depth as far as I can tell.

I don’t watch the leafs very much but obviously you do. Give me your scouting report on this Dermott kid.

It's something for nothing. I will take a 4th round pick. I think the fact that he wasn't going for a 3rd or a 2nd, shows what type of value that player has to other teams.

Low percentage chance but Jim left behind a bunch of good scouts.

- manvanfan

I love trades & you love the drafts. Do you like more picks or let players walk for nothing?

I’m more of proactive aka antsy for moves lol

I don't think the expectations are really that high for him. 1 year at 1.5 mil is the exactly the kind of time and money I'm willing to give.

We don't have the defensive depth to trade any Dman straight up for picks right now. That's the reality I'm trying to bring you to.

- Load Management

So why not keep your third round pick , ride out the next twenty games with Juulsen and Burrows and sign Matt Benning for 1 mil in the summer . Benning is a full time Dman bottom pairing , better , and you keep your pick. You can also use that pick to draft a D prospect.

I actually don't mind Garland, but as I said when acquiring him, and took flack from Donna and Nucker, he is a 3rd liner.
I wouldn't have given him 5 million, but in typical Jim Benning fashion, he got 2 million more than what he should be getting.

Why are you giving up a third round pick for a 6/7/8 guy ? Isn't this what everyone has been b1tching about for years on here trading draft picks?

Garland is not a good contract for a 3rd liner.
- Reubenkincade

Peteys line is third line . Over 7 mil for that one

Yes & no. Puck hogs that can enter a zone & be shifty we lack. He does shoot from everywhere & anywhere. His style needs a player to feed off his style. Burrows was the best we ever had at that. Defensively he is weak but Boeser isn’t any better & never see him on the back check.

The cup or nothing should apply to playoff contenders, not fringe wildcard teams.

We should be striving for thorough plans, building for the future, doing things not half ass.

Bruh, I've been here a day and you sound like some of the guys in the Toronto blog. That is that you wouldn't be happy even if Canucks won a cup....
- Aaron_85

That is the problem when you walk in for a day and a half and think you know everything. Do you realize how much fucken b1tching I have read in here over the last 8 years about trading draft picks for bottom end players?

They ain’t making the playoffs this year but they still have to ice a competitive team. He’s a young dman and a career plus player. His scouting report states “not going to put up big scoring numbers, but is solid in his own zone”.

Solid in own zone is something this team desperately needs.

I’ll reserve my opinion until I see him play a few games.

I watch the Leafs a fair amount. I just luv my hockey & try to be current on as many teams as I can.

He’s a solid skater & pretty mobile. Not overly physical. Good 1st pass. A change of scenery away from the pressure in Hogtown could do wonders for him. Legit bottom pair D nan plays either side. Outside chance he could be a solid top 4 fill in. Only 25 & not devoid of offence. Only on a 2/1.5m contract.
