Soft teams get softer

Benning was better than this soft diverse front office

And people were celebrating these clowns

This is exactly what they did, i like it. Much younger guy at half price. I would have liked just clearimg Hamomic and keepimg the pick, but the odds are not great to get a better player than him with that pick imo
- neem55

Yeah clearing the space would also be wise but maybe they think Dermott can take an every night role?

Also, turning a guy who cleared waivers into a younger, cheaper dman is pretty bad. We can laugh together at the Sens paying a 3rd for a guy they could have had for free.

From an Athletic article on players they thought the Canucks might target this TDL:

Travis Dermott, D, Toronto Maple Leafs

Now 25-years-old, Travis Dermott’s development within the Maple Leafs organization has appeared to stagnate over the past couple of years.

Once highly regarded as a promising transitional defender whose minutes spiked as a 22 and 23-year-old for an upstart Leafs time, Dermott has played depth defenseman-type minutes at 5-on-5 in Toronto over the past two seasons. He’s been resigned to a bit player on the Leafs defensive corps.

Though he’s lost ground in the pecking order among Maple Leafs defenseman to the likes of Rasmus Sandin and Timothy Liljegren in recent years, Dermott still gets solid — stellar, even — two-way results at 5-on-5. Despite his speed, he’s more defensive than offensive in his overall calibration as a defender, although there are some holes in his game. A lefty shooter, Dermott is also versatile enough to play both the left and right side.

At some point the Maple Leafs — who run as close to the upper limit of the salary cap as any team in hockey — may need to look to offload Dermott, whose $1.5 million cap hit, which is backloaded salary wise and expires following next season, isn’t super efficient for a defender that the club uses as a sixth or seventh blueliner.

As a solid skating, high pedigree defender that might benefit from a change of scenery, Dermott would seem to fit the template that Rutherford-led hockey operations departments seem to target on the blue line. He’d certainly be an addition capable of adding the type of secondary puck-moving ability that the club sorely lacks on the back end.

I just logged in . Let me get this right seeing I haven't caught up fully . We traded Hamonic for a third. Downgraded by trading a third for a Dman that Leafs couldn't dump fast enough and everyone is happy.

Sounds about right?

Do we plan the parade now?

Benning all over again. Told you .

Extra 1.5 mill I guess every little bit helps.

It will also help when we don’t have to pay 4 goalies for only one that can play.

He better at that price. This reminds me of a 4th round pick for Derrick Poopalot.
