Essentially a 3rd pairing guy goes out for a 3rd and a 3rd pairing guy comes in for a 3rd.
It's like having Benning all over again. Does something good then goes and (frank)s it up.
Shall see how Dermott does over a few games though. Maybe a change was all he needs. - manvanfan
Ya, let's see how he does.
I don't go on what fans from other sites have to say, I like to judge with my own eyes. |

Benning would have brought in the older, more expensive guy
Hopefully Dermott just needs a change of scenery. The cap savings help. - NewYorkNuck
3 million and a 3rd round pick, extra roster spot > 1.5 million and no pick |

Moving the Jets 3rd getting our 3rd back allows to OS a RFA up to 2m. Just an option. |

Jim Rutherford clearly stated he wanted to clear cap space ahead of this deadline, he did that with Hamonic and 3 million dollars.

You thought that GM is a higher position than President or are just generally confused like when you incorrectly mentioned capfriendly earlier? |

If Benning traded a third for Dermott the b1tching would be huge . Posters here don't realize we just made our D worse but hey we did save 1.5 .

I am looking after it as that pick saved the Canucks 4.5 million in cap. Schmidt was 6 million and Dermott at 1.5 million.

Leafs not known to develop D very well. It’s a low risk move for a 3rd in a meh draft. - Nighthawk
Well, Lilly and Sandin are ahead of him on the depth chart. Brodie, Rielly, Muzzin, Gio are all top 4. The Russian Bear Lybushkin is holding his own plus there's Holl. Something had to give.
Essentially I look at it as Hamonic for Dermott and I think Vancouver wins that deal.

Oh I know who is the boss and who is calling the shots and it sure isn't the Chipmunks as some on here want you to believe.
The old guy is the one calling the shots , you better believe he is. This is Rutherfords team.

Burroughs only costed 750 K and would have been a better option so I look at this as Canucks wasting cap.

I don't see the Canucks D being worse. The quality of player they brought in is probably equal to the one they sent out but different. For 1.5M less. It just doesn't solve the Canucks actual defensive problem. |

Burroughs is a fine #8 defenseman. I can't say too much about Dermott, as I have stated, I haven't seen much of him. A couple buddies, who are Leafs fans, like him and think he was a doghouse casualty of Travis Green, I mean Sheldon Keefe. |
