I posted this Twitter a few minutes ago. Thoughts Sens fans?
Did any other Sens fans find it odd how PD mentioned everyone in the org but McGuire when talking about who liked Hamonic?! I hope a media member asks PD where PM is and what exactly is his role and why he never speaks to the media when PD told the media he would be doing that?! - Kevin Francis
I have never believed that McGuire was put into the Sens organization by Melnyk or Dorion and he is there as the eyes and ears of other interests. Over this season, I have seen nothing that convinces me of anything different.

It's an interesting take and you might be correct. I know Dorion and McGuire have butted heads since the Brannstrom poop storm in October when they sent him down. Dorion certainly didn't hire him as he hates to feel threatened in any way!!!

Yeah his total silence is very conspicuous... This is a guy you couldn't stop from talking before. Maybe he's a Bettman plant assessing the organization's long term viability in prep for a move or sale. |

Hey Kevin,
I think you are underestimating Joseph. I watched him play a lot last year. He is actually pretty good. Still developing. You will come to like him a lot.

I've talked to a lot NHL personnel, they all say, great PK, has serious wheels but no finish and lacks hockey IQ. I will see how he looks over the last 20 games of the season. You might be right. Time will tell from the eye test. |

I think you may be pleasantly surprised with what he does. We will have to see after the 20 game mark though as you said. Lol bookmark this convo for then

There's so much to the Murray stuff, I cant wait to write about it. My sources said not to post anything on it until well after the trade deadline.

ote=Kevin Francis]Lets face it at this time next year Brown and Zub will be traded, this team cant afford them!
If they hand out to Zub, a $5M x 4 or 5 years contract; he might take it (take Zaitzev money to pay him)...He is worth to keep as he would be the perfect partner with Chabot, or even with Sanderson.

Is this Joseph or Formenton? |

Not a bad point, but Formenton has started to develop his finishing skills more this year. |

The problem is, Ottawa has to look at all the other young guys they will have to pay in next 2-3 years. I guess time will tell on Zub, but I would be stunned if they were able to keep Connor Brown.

So.....Joseph is another Dzingle then?
this whole trade deadline seems like a big deflate |

I'm inclined to agree - plus, I'm generally on board with any move that shifts the team dynamic more towards speed vs. 'big-body' grit. Joseph isn't more than a 3rd line player, but he could be very effective as a #3LW playing alongside Pinto, and by all accounts has the flexibility to play both LW/RW effectively. Plus, it could be that Paul was not only $$$ apart in terms of an extension, but also just wanting to explore the UFA market.

Does Dorion bring back Craig Anderson to finish the season in Ottawa so they can send down Filip Gustavsson to Belleville?! |

Too bad Joseph doesn't play center, losing Paul at taking draws hurts a bit. the locker room dynamic though is something you cant measure and it sounds like a lot of the players including the coaching staff weren't happy with how it all went down with Nick Paul.

As for Forsberg, I have to say I'm generally fine with this extension. In isolation of context, it probably shouldn't be a 3yr deal, and there's obviously a risk in terms of whether Forsberg's quality of play will sustain into his early 30's. However, when you consider the context of the Murray trade disaster, the limited NHL development we've seen from Gustavsson, and where this team is at in terms of needing to start next year on a FAR more positive note than any of the past 5 seasons... it makes the subjective risk of a 3rd year at $2.75M more than tolerable.
Plus, it seems pretty clear that Forsberg wants to stay with the team, and that the team feels he's become the guy they'll play hardest for in goal. Well, you can't teach or buy those kinds of things, and for a GM that's gone on and on about team culture, you can't afford to ignore it just because the player wants a 3rd year. Plus, that timeline doesn't really challenge the reality that the team's future in G is some combination of Gustavsson, Sogaard, and Merilainen. What's far more important at this point is to keep Murray away from the team going forward, whether by LTIR or buyout.
