Ottawa will have to eat salary if they want to move Tierney. MIN and NSH are in on him. - Kevin Francis
Curious to see what they can get for him. I'm not expecting a windfall or anything, but he's better player of anyone traded so far today, and serviceable guys like him have been overpayed for before many times. |

Does Ottawa call up MDZ to finish the season if they cant move him?

That's what I was thinking too.
Will Sanderson play in Belleville if/when he signs his entry level deal?
My understanding is that it burns a year of the ELC eithr way, so they might want to gie him a look in the NHL either way and then send him down to get some professional experience. - david22
If he's healthy to play, after the hand surgery. |

So far, this is not all that bad.
The Hamonic deal was suspect but having him around as a veteran presence to bring the young defenders along is not a bad idea. With the exit of Brown this looks a little better. I would say being able to move Brown and get assets back for him more than makes up for the Hamonic for a 3RD deal.
Adding two young players (B-Sens?) is a good thing and the added picks can be used or traded.
In the unlikely event that PD can trade Zaitsev this would be a solid win for this deadline. |

Agree. The deal I was really hoping to see was Zaitsev out. Trades will still trickle in but man... He's gotta go.

Well, the supposed Zaitsev deal was always continent on Arizona trading Chychrun for a young high-end forward, and needing to fill a D roster spot and get to the salary floor. Whatever that major deal was supposed to be apparently never happened, so they're back to being stuck with Zaitsev. At least they removed J. Brown from the equation... bizarre that he returned more than Sanford.
The D-pairings for the rest of the year should be interesting... maybe Brannstrom-Hamonic, and Holden-Zub as the top-4? There could be a whole separate +/- wagering just for the Mete/Zaitsev 3rd-pairing |

Calgary sending goaltender Michael McNiven to the Ottawa Senators for future considerations.
So Gus will be sent back to Belleville |

Exactly the same? That would be odd, because I wrote that post but never even look at Twitter.
McNiven is a bit of a weird pick-up... feels like he's notably worse than Gustavsson, so maybe it's to help bolster the B-Sens if they make Gustavsson the back-up for the rest of the NHL season? |

Strange deadline. I'm perplexed at the Harmonic acquisition and getting rid of Brown doesn't really negate that. Not sure why this team continues to get players as if they were playing EA Sports NHL from 3-4 years ago purely for nostalgia. No idea how a 3rd rounder was warranted and he takes up a spot for next year. How is a team supposed to improve their defence when they fill the spots with mediocre players?
I'm on the fence about the Forsberg signing. Nice story, but so were Hammond, Condon, and Nilson. However, may mean something bigger for Matt Murray. Doesn't make sense to have nearly $10 million invested in goaltending where neither one is a true #1.
Paul and Joseph are a bit of a wash to me. I guess Joseph has the Chabot/Seadogs connection. Fits the friends as teenagers narrative. Harmonic fits the played with the coach before narrative. Weird how teams like Tampa , Florida, and Colorado don't do that and just decided to go the "good player" route.
Nothing happened today that made me anymore hopeful for the future. |

So, what are we looking at to start next season
Norris Batherson Tkachuk
Stutzle, Brown ?
Pinto Formenton Joseph
I feel pretty good with this rough projection.
I would like for the second line empty slot to be filled with a big bodied playmaker who is a good match for Stutzle.
I would be okay with the Sens giving up their first round pick (lottery protected) to get the guy who can match up with Timmy. Multiple teams will be very hard against cap. I think the guy is out there and this summer might be the perfect time to make a huge move.

I think they wnat Gustavsson to play the most game possible and fight for the #1 spot for th B-Sens.
The sens season is already a crapshot might as well just admit all the way |

Not that long ago Tampa, Florida and Colorado were laying down the template that Ottawa seems to be following.
Patience is a female dog. But, the smartest moves are often the bad ones you decided against doing. If Sens are not doing much they are doing the right thing at the trade deadline.

Actually I think the play here might be to leave MDZ in Belleville, see if he can help Belleville go far in the playoffs, and if he kills it, then flip him at the draft when he might be worth more. Plus Belleville kinda needs him if they're gonna qualify. |

I don't hate these temporary lines. Unfortunately with this coach, despite all the moves, White will probably play no higher than the third line. You can probably slot Joseph in the top 6 at this juncture in his place, which will be an interesting experiment and probably push his re-sign cost higher (classic).
That back end is desperately terrible. Add in Forsberg, who I'm nowhere near as sold on as the organization clearly is, and our new backup Michael Mcniven, who comes into the organization for the cost of nothing, is small, has played 83 games in the pros since being signed to an ELC (82 of which were in the AHL), and has never posted higher than a .902 save percentage. We're set for a rough ride these last months, and I for one am psyched for a high pick.

I think it was an okay day. The real test for the management of this team comes on draft day, buyout day and on the first day of free agency. If they can get rid of one of Murray or Zaitsev then they are good. But i would legit keep both of them if they go out and spend this off-season. They need a 2nd line RW for Timmy. |

Watching Dorion's press conference about the trade deadline, I am pretty confident he forgot MDZ was still in the organization and in Belleville. He couldn't answer Ian Mendez' question about why it took this long for MDZ to come back. It was silent for 5 seconds before he said "I think..... .... we wanted to see Branny". How do you not have an answer for that question? |
