Reason being I dont think the organization wants to play Chytil at wing. Also, playing Vatrano on the second line wing doesnt help them 5v5 scoring, Copp does. When Kakko comes back, he slides into the 3RW role as hes eased back into the lineup and Vartrano slides down.

Agree to disagree. We see it differently.

Vatrano is a shooter. He definitely helps them with 5v5 scoring. He’s more of a pure goal scorer than Copp is.

With the roster you’re suggesting, it shakes up way too much. This is the final stretch of the season. Have to keep things simple so come playoff time, they’re not still tinkering with chemistry trying to find the right fit.

I went B+ also.

Agree with Jan that adding an additional draft pick for Copp feels like a lot. Although it’s nice to see 1st rounders remaining the next 2 seasons, at least for now.

Love the forward depth. I had hoped for a brand new 3rd line, and that is essentially what we are getting. Guys who can eat minutes and wear the other team down as well as kill penalties.

Between Schneider and Nemeth, I prefer Schneider staying in the lineup. But with Braun being a right shot, it probably has to be Nemeth now.

Can’t wait to see all these guys tonight!

I give Drury a B-

Copp is a nice addition especially if we can resign him. The (2) 2nds is w.e bc I think we can get them back at the draft and Barron didn’t have a path to the NHL here but Copp is on pace to have a career year at 51 pts averaged over an 82 game season.

Motte is a 4th liner that can bring some energy but I think we could’ve done better here. (Maybe Carpenter who went for a 5th)

I felt like Braun is where we messed up a little. I would’ve preferred Lauzon (RFA at the end of the year and went for a 2nd) or Middleton (also a RFA and went for a goalie and 5th).

Vatrano for a 4th was a good move.

I was a little underwhelmed by Braun too but I think the prices were just to high for a rental D. I’d have preferred Leddy simply because he’s faster

Agreed vatrano is a stop gap till kakko comes back …. Let copp be on the 3 rd line build some chemistry with chytil vatrano can slide to this line when kakko comes back

I think Copp is already here. Trouba posted a picture with Himself, Copp and his dog last night. I do not know if it was a new or old pic.

As for Braun and the 3rd pair, I think there will be a solid rotation for those 3. This will give all of them a chance to recoup for a more grueling playoff run. I could also see some of the top four taking a maintenance day down the stretch without too much of a downturn in play. I think we will need all 7.

KZL
Panarin, Copp, Strome
Goodrow, Chytil, Vatrano
Hunt, Brodzinski, Reaves

These are the lines Id like to see tonight. I know GG likes McKegg but I dont want to have any lines without someone that can win faceoffs, and so far Brod is doing it.

The next thing to argue about…

I don’t understand why Copp would be put on the second line. That would just make us a two-line team still.

He’s here to lengthen the lineup. Put him on the third and let him build chemistry with those guys.

I was shaking my head saying exactly this as I read through here. I could be wrong, but this notion of pushing Strome to the wing is fan-based nonsense. We have zero indication from GG that it might happen. And it fails to make us harder to play against. We now have the tools to change into a team with 3 legitimate lines that can drive play and score with a tough, physical 4th line. Stockpiling assets on the 2nd line won't do that.

You have to imagine he was either already in NY last night or is arriving this morning.

I gave Drury an A for his deadline work. I know that is high for most of you. But, I did not want to see major changes. When you have been in the top 7 teams in the league consistently all season, home run deals are not what you need. We all said filling out the bottom 6 and a 3rd pair D man were the priorities. That is just what he did. And now the aversge grade is B-? The grass is truly always greener on the other side...
I like to think by balancing the lines we will see the uptick in 5v5 scoring that is desired. Drury gave up NOTHING of consequence, held his balance sheet in check for next year's cap crunch and made us unequivocally better. If the new guys work out, we can trade Chytil at the draft to get next year's mid-rounders back and maybe even free enough space to bring Copp back.

Ageed. The biggest knock on NYR over the last few years is lack of depth at
center. Copp addresses that, so why place him and Strome on same line?

It’s a tough call with Schneider as I think it makes little sense to have him here as the extra, but if they do rotate I could potentially see him sticking around. There just aren’t many good options for the extra defenseman now. If not Schneider, assuming it remains Hajek? That’s not great.

they'll keep Panarin-Strome-Vatrano together

they've looked good, let them continue to develop some chemistry

Vatrano has set up Panarin a few times and Panarin couldn't finish

play Copp with Chytil, even if Chytil is technically the center, Copp can take the facoffs

when Rooney and Kakko are healthy, there's a lot of players here

Exactly our biggest knock was not having a good 3 rd line which we have now with copp Chytil and goodrow

I'm with Tony on the A. I think Copp/Vatrano gives us flexibility up and down the 2- 4th lines. Ultimately I see our playoff line like this:

Keirder Zib- Laf
Paranin - Strome- Vatrano
Chytl - Copp- Kakko
Mott- Rooney-Reeves
Brod- Mckegg- to hartford- scratch Hunt and Gauth
F-L
T-M
Braun - Nemeth
Schneider back to Hartford- Scratch Hajeck and Tinordi

Edit- Left out goodrow- Move him to the 4th and scratch Rooney- move Gauth to Hartford if he lcears vwaivers. Tought decisions to make ( or one extra D and keep gauth and one scratch D ( Hajeck)

Also, I'd like to know who the 4 Richards were that gave a D grade!

I gave an A- for all of this^. The only thing more he could have done was maybe take on some dead weight contracts for picks. Overall though - this was nearly the ideal situation.

Yeah, I was hoping for this as well. I just figured that maybe the deals weren't there, or locking up Copp from the other suitors took so much of his time that it just had to fall away.

Rangers think they can compete for the Cup, that would have only been helping teams they can possibly play along the way

Yeah. As it is they helped Florida with their acquisitions that could very well bring them a cup.

Yup. Makes no sense. If you are going to move Copp to the 2nd then Strome becomes the the 3rd line center

I'm a tiny bit surprised they gave out 18.
