I am open to both directions. I go with the direction that makes sense. Part of me hopes they suck because I do want Bedard but I believe they will be competitive for at least the Wild Card

The point is on this board people are saying we need top end talent. If Konecny is a Top line RW, Couturier a top line C and Farabee a top line LW. What top end talent is needed to make this team a contender? Who are you moving to make room for top end talent?

Flyers apparently should have no problem being a top team next season right?

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

There are obviously players out there who are better than TK, Coots and Farabee at their respective positions. Who wouldn't want Auston Matthews instead of Coots, or Mark Stone over TK, or Marchand instead of Farabee lol. But barring the Flyers' ability to majorly upgrade, it makes sense to keep playing the guys we have, because they're still relatively young.

Of course, if you'd rather tank, then hell, trade everybody including TK, Hart, Coots, everybody.

Philly absolutely should’ve traded coots. In no sane world do you sign a 30 2c to 8 year deal. Unless they getting 3 mil a year which is just as insane.

Flyers need to find some way to trade Coots to themselves, losing a bunch of assets in the process. Somebody call up Bill Armstrong.

Sadly we’re back to stage 1 with this team as they’ll never get it.

Just the more one thinks about it I really is astounding this thought of aggressive retool.

With the current roster it’s amazing they think this an option.

And even more amazing is people not only believing it but making excuses and defending it.

I never ever ever thought I’d say this but currently philly is not only the worst team in the league but the most lost and confused. And will be for some time.

I mean can anyone name a team in worse shape?

11 years in league.

Hard years too

Recent injury history although granted nothing too major but expected

Sign to 8 years.

How many players play 19 years in league? Especially those hard years?

Absolutely negligent to offer that deal

I know you (and others) will say the exact same thing 30 days later in spite of what I say below, but ...

1. Carjacking (and motor vehicle crime and indeed all violent crime) has gone up across the nation very sharply last few years, irrespective of towns small and large, and political affiliation of administration. Just go to the FBI Crime Explorer page and check.

2. Even with its own very sharp rise in carjackings, Philadelphia is nowhere near the the worst in carjacking rate.

3. Rittenhouse square is a very safe area by the standards of big city exclusive areas. I have lived within a 10-15 min walk of the square for the past 30 years.

4. (And while you did not say this), Florida may have no income tax, but it has higher property taxes and is in the bottom 20% in housing afforability. Further, the absence of income tax is only relevant for the games played in tax-free states. Florida has 3 Canadian cities, and also teams with Michigan, NY and Ma (all high tax states) in its division.

In summary, it is highly unlikely anyone in the NHL is choosing Florida over Philly because of high taxes.

Again, if you have those 3 on a line, there's no more room for top end talent on the team?

Ok move Farabee to LW. Whos your top line RW?

If Atkinson or Konecny are good enough for the top line RW we clearly dont need top end talent. No need to add anyone. Clearly this team is good enough with the following lineup

Farabee-Couturier-Atkinson
Lindblom-Hayes-Konecny
Laughton-Frost-Tippett

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Lindblom has no business in the top 6 IMO, and Tippet should be in the top 6 for sure. But no matter how you slice it, this group of forwards is no where good enough. There is no high end talent in this group. My hope is the Flyers get such a player picking high in this draft and maybe that with a player from their system like Foerster they can get closer.

Boston??? really just recently got a descent 2nd line. before it was the perfection line that dominated.
- Peter Richards

The only reason the Bruins have a decent 2nd line is they moved Pastrnak to the 2nd line to play with Hall. The Bruins problem right now is a lack of a true 2C and an aging Bergeron.

I would speculate that right now, after seeing Ristolainen play a season outside of Buffalo. The number of GM's willing to fork out a 1st rounder for Ristolainen has dwindled down considerably. I would also speculate that the Flyers had some preliminary calls and didn't find much interest for Ristiolainen. Albeit in a smaller market at the deadline than during an off season. I would also speculate that Ristolainen's agent read the tea leafs and realized that the demand for his client would not be what they had hoped so they signed the Flyers deal.

There's room for 12 forwards on a team. Barring trades, here is 7 definite. If JVR is still around, he can play on the 4th line. Other players such Frost, Tippett, Allison, Laczynski and other can all compete for a spot.

Well actually Chuck Fletcher admitted to major things this season: 1. This team does not have the right personnel on the power play, no ability to score from the flank and 2. they lack high-end talent. These statements came from the GM himself, so that is pretty clear what Fletcher will be trying to obtain this off season.

TK is just not good enough. He skates around a lot, but can't finish a play. Farabee is a good complimentary player, but he is not a sniper or a true finisher. Atkinson can finish occasionally but he is not what I would consider a pure sniper either. We'll see what Tippet becomes and some of the kids coming up like Foerster and Brink. But right now I would say this is the number one area Fletcher has to address.
