Listening to Gorton and Hughes...I really have the feeling these guys have a real plan and know their poop. It's reassuring and a great change.
I know I was hopeful when Bergevin was hired, but I think that was different. He was replacing Gainey and Gauthier. I was just happy to see someone who had a pulse. |

and perhaps Bergevin had a bit too much of a pulse, in the sense that he was too emotional to be taking certain decisions, whereas these guys have no real attachment to the players and are able to make the necessary moves.

Bergevin was a great negociator in trades, but he seemed to have trouble managing the cap, not overpaying for his free agents and failed greatly at player developpement. As the years went by he closed himself more and more and lost the sympathy of the fans.

Hughes said that a trade deadline where he's a buyer would be different because you mostly trade picks to acquire players. He said that this one was tough because even if he has not been here for long, he still liked the individuals and he knows how that they were appreciated in the room, and he feels for the guys.
It is a business after all. |

well it's good to keep in touch with the human aspect of things, treating the players right is how the organization will improve its reputation, among other things. but yeah, at the end of the day it remains a business.

Oh yes. Very scared about that and not the Rangers or some actual team. You know. The Coyotes who are running a payroll of 40mil with a cap expense of 130 with half on LTIR. |

No idea about Hughes, but Jeff Gorton has been a great mind everywhere he has gone in any capacity. He was at the very least a very good hire. |
