The number of turnovers he makes that result in goals for his limited time on ice is startling |

Yes agree. Heās just a bit to small for me and his skating doesnāt make up for it. I was never a fan. |

Well if they played like this all year they may have done something. Perhaps it's why no moves were made |

Agreed. It is what it is. However can you imagine if the season was reversed? If they came out playing well, then collapsed it would've been much more painful. |

Even the Detroit announcers (that's the broadcast I had to listen to) were saying that if it weren't for the 13 game road trip, Covid and injuries that the Isles would more than likely be in the playoffs this year. Maybe being in a new building contributed a little bit as well. You have to get to know the rink. How the puck comes off the boards. The dead spots. How the puck rims around the glass. Yeah they had a few practices but it was new to them as well as their opponents. Maybe I'm just grasping at straws for excuses, but this season is what it is. Move on to the off season and see what Lou does. |

Yeah I donāt believe itās THE reason but believe it contributed to a negative result. Plenty of other teams endured Covid BS that are currently in playoff position. If a 13 game road trip destroys your season then your team has bigger issues going on imo. Did it help our cause? Of course not but to blame our season on that is a cop out. This team has some holes and to go into next season nit filling those holes would be a misstep. How many times has this team over performed when the playoff were out of reach? Did this team underperform and play terrible when healthy this season? Yes it did thatās why this season is toast. They started playing to their ability a few weeks ago. Not saying you are the one making excuses but if Lou goes into next season thinking well Bailey, Chara, Beau and whoever decided to start playing in March so these guys are just wonderful for next season donāt color me surprised when weāre in the same situation again next season. This season if anything pointed out some real obvious holes to even the most stubborn homer. If they donāt get filled we will miss the playoffs again in this division imo. |

It was death by a thousand cuts but all teams face adversity. They are 3rd in goals against even with their record so that alone points to a lack of scoring. Lee and Nelson are on fire and Palmieri and Parise have gotten better but to me their inability to score even with the goalies playing well was the killer. I hear chychruns name thrown around but to me a legit scorer is what's needed more. Raty is still a year or so off and holmestrom has been ok in Bridgeport but to me he's a 3rd line guy if he makes it. I know a gadreau or forsberg is probably a pipedream but thats what this team is sorely lacking |

I'm not offering up any excuses for this season. They didn't score goals. Period. That long road trip wasn't like the spent all the time on the road. They'd play a road game or 2 then come home for a few days. Get some practice in and hit the road for maybe a week. Then it was back home again. Now, they didn't play at home, but they weren't in planes, buses and hotels for a month at a clip. As Upstate put it below, death by a thousand cuts. You're playing in front of someone else's fans for 13 games to start, then you play in your arena and it's the first time doing so.
I do agree that if they ice the same team next season, it won't be a surprise if they're out of playoff contention by February. They need consistent scoring. Someone to put in 40-50 goals a year consistently. They also need a solid puck-moving defenseman to replace Leddy. I don't think there needs to be a major shake-up or rebuild. Just 2 or 3 guys that make the team younger, faster, and score more. |

Agreed. The goalies have done their jobs this year. The guys in front haven't. I'm sure if you go back through the season scores, there'd be more than 1 or 2 one goal games that they could have/should have won. They win a few of those early games and now we're talking about potential playoff spot.
*Edit: So I just went back and looked at their scores. I can count at least 8 games that they could have/should have won. A few were OT/SO losses but most were 1-goal games or games against Seattle/Buffalo that they'd most likely win now. You can come up with about an additional 15 points which would put them right in the thick of the hunt for a wild card. Wasted opportunities have killed them this year.

40-50 consistently is like Ovechkin-level talent, something tells me that they're not gonna find that. A regular 30-goal guy (Forsberg) and a defenseman that can skate and transport the puck effectively would go a loooong way. |

Yeah they had several games this year where they gave up back-breaking goals in the last couple seconds of a period. A handful of mental lapses and a dearth of goals lead to a significant number of losses. |

Weāve gone 7-1-1 in the last nine and made up two points on the teams weāre trying to catch. |
