What’s up with the two fights, was there a poopty hit or was the first scrap not a good one?
- ClaudeFather

I think Smith wanted a chance for a rematch, which ended being a mistake for Smith

I did not watch this game but in the blog Bill specifically mentions Risto with a tough game and said he had a direct hand in 3 Detroit goals. Sounds like you aren’t being objective at all by posting these stats. And if that’s the case, you clearly have an awful eye test. The guy, who works for the team, said the player was bad.
- ClaudeFather

Just watch the goal highlights. Ristolainen was terrible last night. Provorov also blew a simple man to man coverage on a goal.

MacEwen and Smith chirping each other at the faceoff. Quick scrap. Smith wanted another crack later after the game was intact.

Well you can throw the metrics out the window if one guy directly gave the other team 3 goals and the other guy didn’t. Do you see why the metrics there would mean absolutely nothing and how asinine it is to post them?
- ClaudeFather

You just proved my point! Thank you.

Perfect, please look at the entire 56 games then, you will see essentially the same thing. But even so, I think its even more relevant in the here and now, not the past. BTW, Risto had a poor defensive game last night, but as you can see, Sanheim didn't fair much better.
- jd250

LOL. No you won't. The numbers have been posted numerous times. They are not remotely the same. Not if you look at the right numbers. Which has also been explained to you. Sanheim did not have a rough game last night. Ristolainen did.

To watch the game, see a player give the other team a few goals, and then post his metrics verse another player in a “told you so” mentality is as delusional as it gets.

Risto did have a bad defensive game last night, multiple turnovers that directly lead Detroit goals. I did not say anything about Risto's game in my post, I just showed the advanced metrics. You mean, when you looked at the metrics I posted they didn't tell you Risto had a poor game last night compared to Sanheim?
- jd250

Hits, blocks, +/- and TOI are not advanced metrics. This has been explained to you.

I generally want to give players the benefit of the doubt. However, Risto was plain awful last night. That's my problem with him. When he is at his best he is just a good player. Not a great one. When he is off it can be catastrophic.

Provorov seems comfortable playing with York.

Keep playing hard and coming up short boys. That is the best case scenario for this year.

There are numerous threads that you can go back and look and see the information that was given to you previously that you obviously ignored. Especially around the time that he was re-signed.

Especially when the other player is stuck playing with the player in question.

Why should we expect anything less? I'm actually getting bored with it and the entertainment factor is dwindling.

13 consecutive losses on the road. And the next two road games are in St. Louis and Colorado. An absolute disgrace.

The Flyers will be a doormat in this Division for the foreseeable future. The Devils have a core of Hughes, Hischier, Bratt and Hamilton to build around. Light years ahead of the Flyers.

The numbers that I have seen comparing Risto and Sanheim are 3 year averages, not isolated to this season which is all that matters. I don't disagree with you that Risto had a rough game, but the metrics don't show that, that is my point. The only way you know this is to watch the game!

May not be a fav of most but Zach MacEwen brings it every game. Plays his role very well. Chuck should resign him for 1M, solid 4th line player. I can see why Canucks fans were not happy when Flyers picked him up.
- 3flyerkids

I can’t for the life of me understand why he takes any poop at all. If your argument is lack of point production, nobody was ever gonna pick him or any other fourth line player up in their pools in October.

LOL, you don't understand metrics. Want to look at a simple non advanced metric for the season? Sanheim is a +3. Ristolainen is a -14. You're trying to make a weak argument that metrics don't matter.

Filter each column to see where Ristolainen ranks and how awful he actually is.

Yesterday I showed the 3 previous games before that, and moving forward I will post these stats between the two players. So we will see if two defenseman that play together for just about the entire game really have different metrics.

First, as Tomahawk recently suggested, you need to do some research and educate yourself some on even something just as simple as what metrics to actually look at.

They probably will be similar. They are on the ice at the same time for practically the whole game. The real stat to show is what each player's metrics look like when separated.

I would be willing to bet that Sanheim's analytics improve when untethered from Risto.

All I am trying to do is 1. challenge the statements that Risto's metrics are that different from Sanheim's this season, and 2. challenge the idea that you can look solely at metrics to determine how a player played in a game. Clearly in this game Risto made some bad turnovers that directly lead to goals against, but when this happens *everyone* on the ice suffers, not just one player.
