Take it for what it’s worth. If already posted and discussed I will take my place in the center square for my public humiliation

It would however require for Petry to lift his no-trade clause, he who is believed to have the Flyers on his list of 15 teams where he does not want to be traded.

Back to back and high altitude, do not set your house on a flyers win.

And the Avs are rested & coming off a bad loss, right?
I had one of those 24 hr gambling channels on earlier, and all three of the talking heads had the over on 6.5 total goals for Flyers/Avs as either number 1 or 2 on their list of top 5 best NHL bets of the night.
Right after the NHL segment they did their lists of best bets for the night across all sports. Either the over 6.5 combined total, or the Avs alone over 4.5 was on each guys' top 5 for the night.

So do the Flyers have to send Hodgson back down when the "emergency" is over or can they send someone else down?

Not sure - he has 3 years left. Jvr has one.

I suppose he can still be a serviceable d, but wondering if they know Ellis is not coming back. His numbers before this yr are outstanding.

Flyers trying to "win" now. Right up their alley. Honestly don't think it has anything to do with Ellis. One of pooperov or sanheim will be dealt if this deal goes down.

I dont agree. Petry is a RD. Makes no sense to move a LD. If you are getting Petry either Ellis or Ristolainen would be out.

Petry doesnt make sense for the Flyers especially at his age

Engels reveals that this trade offer was on the table: Habs defenseman Jeff Petry (with salary retention) to the Flyers in return for forward James van Riemsdyk as well as a good prospect.

I'd seriously consider it. Of course, depends on the prospect and how much salary retention.

Because you're right, JVR has one year left. Either trade him with salary retention or ride out the year. I don't think I would do a buyout.

I would have considered it before Ristolainen signed if he didnt want to re-sign. Now that he is signed I dont see the need to make this move unless Ellis' injury is career threatening which I dont believe it is since they are still talking about avoiding surgery.

I guess Petry or Ristolainen could always move the the 3rd pair but we really dont have "a good prospect" to spare to dump JVR

Reason why I would do it (again based on how much retention and what prospect), is because of Ellis. Even if Ellis plays next year, based on his record, he's still going to miss a good number of games. If the Flyers don't think Petry is washed up, you have decent backup plan for Ellis missing time. When everyone is healthy you have good depth.

I'm with Hello though, I think one of Provorov and Sanheim are getting traded this off season, whether they trade for Petry or not.

Ask a simple question. Is it a move that helps the team become a legitimate contender?

Um, I don't trust they will do that no matter what.

Having better depth on defense then what they have right now makes them a better team. Is it the best solution, probably not but I do think they need a legitimate plan for dealing with Ellis' injury whether it's 20 games or 60 games.

I think everything is on the table for them. Trades, free agency. They're going to be aggressive. If a player like Gaudreau makes it to free agency. They'll target him. If not, next in line.

That question really depends if you want to improve the team now or rebuild.

Personally I think Fletcher is going to look to move up in the draft.

Flyers need to look at getting a stable bottom pair D guy. Preferably someone who work well on the PK.

Sanheim, York and Ristolainen(at the point, not in front of the net) should be on the PP and Provorov on the PK.

Offensively I think they need a Winger. Probably look towards more affordable options. Gaudreau will likely get a huge contract 8 or 9 mill. Forsberg probably 7 mill. Perron might be a more realistic option.

Fletcher could target Boeser or JT Miller as Ive heard both players are on the market.

If we are looking forward to the youth taking bigger roles going forward then this archaic thinking of bringing in fossils who on the down side of their careers is just asking for a repeat of these last 2 seasons, imo

I want JVR gone but I don't want 3 years of Petry either

If he makes it to free agency, 8 or 9M for Gaudreau is lowballing it.

No idea what this means. Right now they already have Ellis and Risto, both RHD, under contract for 5 more years. They have Zamula, who can play the right side, Attard, and Wylie (and Menell apparently) in the wings. They drafted Samson, and I hope they keep at trying to draft more high upside RHD. I have been really loud about a backup partner for Provy if Ellis misses more time. I thought that is why they are trying York on the right side and why it would be a good idea to give Sanheim a look there too. I agree about them needing a 3rd pairing right side guy for the PK, if in house options aren’t ready yet. The whole Petry thing makes me nervous—the cost and term are high plus age/injury/decline risk. What does this mean about Ellis?

They have spent a lot of draft picks on LHD. Why can’t we at least have a homegrown left side? They have right now: Provy, Sanheim, York, Zamula, and Hogberg. Even if one of them plays the right side, that’s good depth with just a 7th defenseman added. Trading Provy is a huge, huge hole. If they are trading Sanheim, the whole Risto and Sanheim constant makes zero sense.

Yes, agree with all of this. Youth, youth, youth. Wanna spend money, wait til the following year and make a pitch for Laine. He will be 25 then.
