"They're going to be so good," said McGuire, the NBCSN analyst, after the Flyers selected Nolan Patrick with the second pick of Friday night's NHL draft.

"They were a non-playoff team but I'm going to go on the air and say the Philadelphia Flyers will make the playoffs this year and they will be a beast to play against," McGuire said. "I think (Flyers coach) Dave Hakstol has a murderers' row of young players to play with in Philadelphia. I think they will be one of the more exciting teams in the Eastern Conference going forward."

Asked about Patrick specifically, McGuire said, "He reminds me of Eric Staal, who was coincidentally the second overall pick in 2003."

I recall him saying this on nbc. Quite funny looking back. Quite sad as well.

The good old days when it looked like we were heading for times of grandeur and success…it seems like decades ago….but it’s not.

I don’t think they would ever move him. He may be the second best player in the world…or at least top 5. I guess if we’re gonna dream…dream big.

Oh I know it’s a pipe dream but if Edmonton continues to not be able to do poop with him and McDavid I think they gotta move one of them to address their glaring holes.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but what do the Flyers have to offer to get a player of that caliber. I hate to say it, but their best chance to get a high level forward would be to sign Johnny Hockey(30 goals and 55 assists last time I checked). That's going to require a king's ransom and then he'll probably put up half those numbers after he signs a big deal. Any deal with Edmonton for Draisatl(however you spell it) would probably have to start with Hart since they need a goalie badly. You prepared to do that?

Chuck needs to add two high talent forwards this off season in my opinion. One he should be able to get in the draft. The other, he’s going to have to trade for or find a way to sign.

I’m praying for another Edmonton collapse so maybe they’ll entertain offers on Draisaitl this summer.

What do the flyers have to offer the oilers for his services?

Not much to be excited about.

Dont you worry, they are only a player or two away from competing. They have a great hockey guy in the gm chair who is more than up to the task of getting this team turned around

That game last night was depressing. Colorado looks like they are playing a different game than the Flyers. It’s amazing to me that the Flyers can be both slow and inaccurate with their passes. You’d think with all the time they take to make a play they could at least put the puck in a position for their teammate to receive it.
-Dkos

Same feel when the Flyers played Florida, these teams have loads of top end talent and they just play the game at a much faster level. The Flyers look like orange pylons out there against these teams.

I remember that comment too. And that pov about Patrick was not an anomaly.

Having said that, we pick middle of rounds, and produce middle of line up players. The NPs get cancelled out by the Roos, Couts.

This game was the measuring stick for how close or how far off the Flyers are in competing with the elite. I know Coots and Ellis would’ve helped somewhat but not nearly. Look at the AV’s overall team speed and skill compared to the Flyers. But also, notice the killer instinct that they have. Analytics doesn’t show that! The Flyers need to draft really well over the next couple years. Strap in Flyers fans. It’s gonna be a while...
- HockeyLifer

Even when the Flyers have a completely healthy lineup they are no match for teams like the Avalanche. Who in the Flyers lineup has the talent of McKinnon, Rantanen, Makar or even Kadri? Theses types of players don't grow on trees, you have to be at the top of the draft to get them and even then you have to make the right selection. The Flyers will have another shot at the top of the draft this season, hopefully Flahr will make the right choice.

well if the goal is to move york back to the left side, you have provy, sanheim, york and Zamula, as the LHD. something has to give. But can you go into the year with York and Zamula as starters?

I was thinking about this recently also. The Oilers are going no where and I can see a scenario where they trade Draisaitl for a boatload of players and picks. If I were the Flyers I would trade whatever I had to for Draisaitl and then work to build around him. I would package the 2013 & 2014 1st round picks, Provorov, TK and Brink. Not sure this is enough but that is what I would start with.

I wouldn't because then you are back to the 2020 problems the Flyers had on defense with Myers and Sanheim. York is definitely starting and honestly right now I think he is the Flyers best defenseman. I really haven't seen enough from Zamula to know if he is close to ready. I know he needs to add much more muscle at a minimum.

Kadri talent: Couts, Farabee, Hart, and probably others.

We should avoid Kadri and JG with a barge pole. Reeks of trouble. Huge career years on contract years.

The Flyers have that Russian goalie who was really good in the WJCs, perhaps Edmonton would take him as part of the deal. I would not give Hart up, especially given the history the Flyers have with goalies.
