No pat, that’s not what I posted.

I would imagine that there something in his contract that states he cannot abuse substances.

I know that’s a standard in whl contracts, I can’t imagine it wouldn’t be in a nhl one.

Again, no lawyer here..

- pete26

well what happens then if it's a "contract violation", as you're suggesting?

That’s why I think his problem is between the ears.

How the (frank) can you not be rehabilitated in this amount of time, from any surgery??

- pete26

You probably have a point there. It doesn’t pass the smell test. Only thing I can think of is the habs don’t want him back cause it may give them a better chance to win games and worsen the chances at the top pick in the draft.

there are a lot of injuries and surgeries that do require a lot of time to recover from.

I have no idea.

But I can’t imagine his contract states that it’s ok to abuse substances..

Also, maybe if they enter the nhl program they still get paid, I dunno.

well, obviously not lol. it would either state that it's prohibited, or it doesn't mention it at all. in any case though it's kind of pointless to mention that sort of thing in the contract if the player retains his salary and isn't affected whatsoever...

This. And excessive scar tissue can build if not rehabbed properly, which then requires it's own surgery and rehab.
The focus may have been to get him mentally healthy first, followed by the knee.

this is also what I'm thinking. and obviously you also have to consider that a substance abuse issue isn't necessarily completely resolved after a 30-day program, relapses are a very common thing.

Hard to know, we haven’t seen him since last year. There is a reason Seattle wouldn’t touch him for free tho. I get he’s butt hurt and realizes his Stanley cup dreams are likely toast, but many players are in the same boat.

I think I get what you're saying Pete, but I find your analogy is more or less applicable since we really have no clue about the extent of his recovery right now, and how close (or far) he is from being 100%.
