Really, what was wrong with the Melynk analysis? - henny1953
He passed away 2 hours ago, the comment was distasteful and insensitive when it comes to someone passing away.

RIP Mr. Melnyk. Believed in Ottawa hockey when many wouldn't. |

Melnyk may have been a fool, but he was Ottawa's fool. It may be hard to find someone else willing to burn millions each year just to keep the Sens in Ottawa. - Jackie Daytona
Handle should be changed to Jackass Daytona what a class act you are. |

When Melnyk bought the Sens he threw a party and invited all season ticket holders to attend the Corel Centre (I think that is what CTC was still called back then) for a party. He invited The Eagles as the entertainment. It was a fabulous night.
Next best night was The Boss and surprisingly 3rd best I would say was the big band sound put on Michael Buble just a few years ago.
My favourite hockey moment was the spontaneous ovation given Wayne Gretzky on his final game played in Canada. No announcement had been made before or during the game on the expectations of his retirement. But, towards the end of the game, fans stood on their own and began to applaud and soon the entire building was applauding on what was speculation about his retirement. It was a moving and sincere tribute to a great player and also for our love of the game of hockey itself.
My absolute favourite hockey highlight moment was the Jason Spezza deke on Sheldon Souray to score a winning goal.
Eugene Melnyk has been at the heart of the sports and entertainment scene in Ottawa for a great run.

You and the guy above missed what I thought was the point, He saved Your asses in Kanata, anyway, He can come in and argue His own case.

You either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain
This seems to apply to Melnyk, when he bought the Sens he was a hero, after a while he became a villain, let's hope his daughters sell the team. |

Shocking and sad new on Melnyk. Thoughts go out to his family. |

I had almost the exact same thought. I stil remember how Melnyk was positively viewed when he first bought the team.
I think his daughters are relatively young, so we'll see if they sell the team, or just own it from a hands off vantage point. |

My condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Melnyk. It is never easy when someone doesn't live to a ripe old age.
I believe this event provides much more context to the Pierre McGuire hiring this past summer. It was to provide an "unbiased view" of the organization from someone who is a proponent of Ottawa Senators hockey and friendly to Mr. Melnyk. |

I've long dreamed of the day that Melnyk wouldn't be owner... But never wanted that day to come like this.
RIP. |

Wouldn't now be the time to sell the team and move it to Mississippi or something? It's an up and coming team with a bright future and the folks in Mississippi deserve to reap the benefits of the last five years in Ottawa. Toronto and Montreal would cheer. It's a win win, Bettman. |

I will post a postgame blog tonight. I originally had 2 pieces that I have been working on, that I will post later in the week now. Great to see everyone be very respectful in here today. I will be around during the game in the blog too, so I hope others jump into the discussion. |

Ottawa just has all kinds of room out there. Lots of chances.
I miss the days when games were called by sports announcers rather than cheer leaders. |

I've caught pieces of this game as I am watching the Leafs and Habs games, but that 2nd period from I saw looked wide open like you said. Lots of scoring in many of the games tonight.

So far it's been Saros saving Nashville. I don't really watch Nashville games but how in the world is that team challenging for a wild card spot? Gives me hope for Ottawa's chances next year.

West and East are very different conferences with their style of play. DJ's style fits the west more than east! lol
