Funny how he goes to the best team in the league, immediately on the first line, putting up points, counted on in key situations. But I guess he was captain comfortable...or maybe this team just sucked. - ClaudeFather
So he is doing what he did here.

In the not-breaking news department: Eight years later, we’re being told that the Rangers had something going with the Flyers at the 2014 deadline, whereby Ryan Callahan would have gone to Philadelphia for a couple of prospects. It is only when that fell through that the Blueshirts turned to Tampa Bay and pulled off the captains’ exchange for Martin St. Louis, according to a well-placed source.
Bill any idea who was involved?

Due to lost revenues during the pandemic and the decision to extend rather than trade Ekholm, Predators ownership wanted to cut budget. That's why Ellis was made available in trade.
Besides, his current injury issue is one he never had previously in his career. - bmeltzer
Regardless, Ellis is one of those players who finds a way to get injured for extended periods. This specific injury may not be recurring, but the fact that he is always injured is recurring. Layer that on top of that ridiculous contract and you stay away. Fletcher is either an idiot or a puppet following the whims of the idiots above him. |

Montreal seems to really be buying in to what St. Louis is doing. Also has Luke Richardson as one of his assistants. A team lacking in talent, with some direction and structure, sure is playing some spirited hockey. |

Watched some of the Denver/MD college hockey game yesterday afternoon. Bobby Brink is the leading goal scorer in college hockey. While his team is headed to the frozen four I wasn't overly impressed with his game yesterday. Just didn't notice him having the puck that much. THIS TEAM NEEDS FORWARDS THAT CAN DRIVE THE PLAY!! Thanks! |

What an unbelievable game . Double OT. 22-0-1...league champs..flyers cup champs..state champs. My grandson is on the team.. - hfc355
My son played at Haverford last season, who also went to states. Unfortunately we lost in the final out in Pittsburgh. Tough to swallow, especially in that town, but it was a great ride and trip. Enjoy and congrats. |

My kids had a bit of sports success and I would be asked, 'Are you proud?'
They always thought it was weird that I said I was proud FOR them, not proud OF them.
I figure I wasn't the one collecting bruises, straining my body, or having to adapt to the weather, etc.
The only thing I did was support their activities. As a resource pride is possible, but it's like you are an ore deposit. Are you going to be proud that you are made into a good product? You are merely a willing repository of time, enhancing emotional deposits, money (lots of that) that is utilized by your offspring to achieve.
I never insisted on them being studs on the field. I would encourage them to do what they could as best as they could. Seemed to work. They never hated getting into the car with me after a game. Expressing sympathy for bad luck, recognizing when luck ran in their directions, hating bad calls (I was a ref, coach, announcer, and board member.), and restraining honesty as needed when they were off.
I didn't make it all fun all the time but compassion ruled and making it as good as the moments allowed kept us from letting a game weigh too heavily on their competitive selves.
And it made the process of rearing four kids less of a burden. |

Dressing 11 forwards for the 4th game in a row? Why is Allison not playing?
Amazing how everyone on the team has been injured. Not Yandle tho. No injuries no Covid.. what a farce. |

No doubt. It's the result of an organizational philosophy of putting the team in a position where they have to make moves. When in that position, you don't make the best moves. You make the best move you can find right now. It leads to bad decision making. Good GM's are patient and make the right moves over a period of time. I have no doubt that given some healthy and whatever moves they make, the team can be improved. Become a playoff team. Maybe even a team that can get hot and make a run one season. However the odds are unlikely that with the team philosophy that they have, that they'll become a top perennial contending team. More likely that they'll be a team with cap issues and get in a big jam if they are lucky enough to get some young players develop into top players. With their developmental processes. That's what it would take. Luck.

Bill, Poile could've chosen another player to move. Ellis was moved to get out from under that contract, no doubt. - MJL
Like who?
The only players in the ball park of Ellis are Ekholm, Josi, Forsberg, Duchene and Ryan Johansson.
Josi is by far their Best D, wasnt going to be him
With Johansson and Duchene struggling prior to this season they couldnt afford to give up Forsberg
They tried moving Duchene and Ryan Johansson but found no takers. Both players were also exposed for the expansion draft.
That Leaves Ekholm who was re-signed and carried a 3+ mill cap hit going into this season.
Ellis was the odd man out. Poile knew jack, he was just desperate to dump cap. |

Yeah you guys beat us in the semis last year. What a dynamic offensive powerhouse they were. Losing to any team from Pittsburgh sucks especially out there. Almost had a clean sweep this year but Malvern got edged out. High School hockey at the higher level teams is so so good. Good luck |

I would not give Poile that much credit. Afterall he did sign him for $6+MM until age 36. Anyone who has watched Ellis during his entire career knows he is injury prone. He is hurt every year and misses an average of 25% of the games. - mr4tno
Been saying that Ellis has been plagued by injuries for his whole career. To bad chuckles did. It see that |

News to me. Also was never mentioned by Homer in his 8 hours of interviews with Jay Greenberg for Flyers at 50. But certainly could have happened. Just don't know who was involved. |

Coming up with an opinion on why another player was not chosen does not remove the simple fact that another player could've been chosen. The obvious factor was Ellis, his injury history and the term left on his contract. |

My expectations for him are getting lower every week. He does some good things here and there but it doesn’t seem to be clicking at the NHL level for him. For the speed they claim for him he never uses it either. He’s having an extremely difficult time adjusting his game, he needs to find it soon. |

You are deflecting.
You said "Poile could have chosen another player."
I just pointed out why there was no other player. These are not opinions, its fact.
Duchene and RyJo were in fact being shopped/Dump, that is a fact
Ekholm being more cost effective than Ellis is a fact
Forsberg being the teams top forward since 2014-15 is a fact.
Ellis was the only player to move. That is a fact.
Ellis' injury history has nothing to do with it. If NSH had the money they wouldnt have made that deal.
