I am on the record saying Hayes is a good 3C and a passable 2C for a bit, he is currently proving me wrong. If this is the real Hayes, he is a solid 2C. I stand by the comment that Coots is a solid 1C, still think you need that high end 1C, or wings that are outstanding at driving play with speed and skill - wcorvette
Agree on Couts and Hayes being solid 1C/2C next season (assuming both are heathy). This *should* remove us from any Kadri temptations (hopefully) as he’s due a big pay day after this season. This should entertain the following question: who is our 3C next year? Laughton / Frost / UFA / trade? Should be interesting especially when you consider Laughts and Frost both can play wing. |

tough spot, don't have a game changer but can't afford to overpay for one. I think it will get down to the draft an what they believe they have there. Will they have a center of the future. I can't see them signing Kadri, that is an old top 3 centers. It is a good point on Frost and Laughton, I could see them on the same line splitting time at C. If they are going to re-tool, I think the easiest and least expensive way is wing. I said a week or two again, Trochek could be their guy.

I don't put much stock in vets putting up points when the season has long been over. Not that meaningful to me. |

You have to go Frost. At this point you have to give the reins to Frost and see what he does with it. If he falters which based on his play right now I dont think he will, Laughton can easily slot there.
The Thing is Hayes and Coots are going to be in their 30s. can this team really make a legit attempt at a cup during their window? They might be better off selling them while they are worth something. Flyers probably waited to long to move on from Giroux, Voracek and Simmonds.
Giroux obviously had the NMC but from what I have heard, he didnt want to leave this season either but he respected the teams wished to move on and agreed to move to Florida. The return could have been much better depending on what year they moved him and how many legit contenders there were.

Ideally if things go as hoped, Hayes is the 3C next year. |

I watched this embedded vid and thought, if Beagle did this on our team, it would be the return of Carcillo.
Nothing that I would want really.
Beagle is 6'3" and 210. Terry is 6'1" and 185.

While I enjoyed thoroughly the BSBs, I was a much younger jerk.
I don't know if the jerkiness has subsided by my internal evaluation but I don't like that crap anymore. Random fights because you LOST just emphasizes that you SHOULD LOSE.
Sparking some spirit, OK, but do it minimally. Genuine anger about a cheap shot, whupping is required. |

I was at last night's game at MSG and Tippett stood out. I expect good things from him. I know the Flyers want a better draft pick and losing games actually helps in the standings, but it was nice to beat the Rags on their home ice. - Thors-Hammer
at this point i'd be so mad if we were worst in the league and lost 1st overall and drafted another jvr |

I think it (Beagle's hit) was a bush league move. My tastes have also changed over the years I guess. One thing I also hate is when players start fights after clean hard hits. I don't remember the league being like that back in the day ten twenty years ago. If a guy got smashed in a clean hit even his team mates would tell him to keep his head up. And then tell him to get out there and lay a good clean hit back at him or on someone else.
Now it seems like everything has to be a fight. |

Well what will change between now and camp that would not have Hayes as the #2 center? You dont want a guy like Kadri. So who ideally will push him out of that spot in the next 5 months?

Wade Allison is day-to-day. Took treatment today. Possibly could play in Wednesday's must-win road game against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Yesterday, he took a couple hard hits, including one of ex-Flyer/Phantom Andy Andreoff. Had back spasms and was generally in discomfort.
But it looks like it's nothing serious this time. - bmeltzer
Thanks for the detailed update. He seems like he has a lot of offensive talent but he always seems to get injured. I was hoping he was going to be a part of the rebuild-retool but HE always gets reinjured. It now makes sense why he wasn’t called up to the NHL I would want him to learn how to play injury free in the AHL first.
The game is harder at the NHL level with bigger players that hit harder and definitely with a faster pace that would force him to play on the edge.
I hope he figures out how to play with intensity and stay on the ice too. I guess that is a part of learning to play pro sports too.
The Flyers definitely could use his scoring talent. |

My view of the Michigan is this: If you can pull it off, do it. If you are the defending team, well, it's no longer so rare that you should be caught totally unaware. Prevent it if you can.
It is excessive goal celebrations that bother me more than a couple parlor trick goals a season. There is no rule that puck has to stay along the ice for a goal to be scored, just that the stick has to be below the height of the crossbar.

When a Beagle is out of line it usually gets put in a crate, or smacked across the snoot with a newspaper. |

Agree. I know it's legal, I just don't like it. And I don't think someone should be engaged in a fight for pulling it off.
If during the course of executing a Michigan the puck goes above the crossbar would the goal be allowed? |

You do need that to win a Cup, but the Flyers are just trying to get out of the bottom of the barrel here.
If they can get close to full seasons from Couturier, Hayes, Laughton and Frost they should be solid down the middle in 22-23.

Hayes has been okay but that top line with Farabee playing center is not very good. - MJL
It’s hard tell what Farabee is doing out there at center. |

Learning on the job. He has never played center at any level -- was always a winger, and mostly LW at that -- so this stretch of games have been something completely new to him. Laughton could be back in the lineup by tomorrow.

I’m not hating, we all know it’s not his natural position but it’s also clear it’s not his natural position. |

I'd like to see frost continue to gain confidence and chemistry with tippet and whomever else he plays with |

My hope is that Frost elevates his game to a 2C level. I just don't see Hayes as a long term solution as a 2C to building a legit contending team.
