Here are some articles, from people who took the time to study it, about penalties reg season vs playoffs...in some of these they even say they've found there to be more in the playoffs

"You have to go back to 2015 to find a season where teams were penalized, on average, more in the regular season than in the postseason."

Yeah goals scored per game in regular season vs playoffs arent all that different...most years a tiny bit less in playoffs, like 0.3 to .5 less goals per game on average. Some years there's more per game than reg season. Interesting how big of a shooting % drop there is in playoffs...which is bad for the Pens who already have putrid shooting %'s and finishing ability a lot of seasons...

Also very interesting that the % of overall goals that are PP ones vs 5on5 for teams are higher in playoffs than regular season.

Yeah but those are a bunch of unrelated small sample sizes and not indicative of a trend

Also, people debunk this every year when its said.... There aren't less PP's in playoffs...and I'm pretty sure there's almost identical amounts of scoring...could be wrong on that one.

Oh yeah, you're absolutely right. There aren't less PPs in the playoff, it's around the same. I bet there are probably more non-calls though as the intensity ramps up, but that would take someone tracking the games visual and their opinion on what should have been a penalty or not.

Well the pens sample would be large if they didn’t keep losing in the 1st round

I think I’d rather see the pens top lines holding onto the puck more in the offensive zone and working from the cycle. It would be a good way to pin these much faster, heavier and more physical teams in their own end. Crosby and Jake are great around the net, and Malkin and Carter both have the size to play down low. Just have to realize you’re not going to just skate faster than the other team anymore. Mario himself went to the coaches at one point and said they needed to change in order to win. This team needs to do the same.
