The last thing Provy needs on his plate is being captain. Read the room, Jesus. - ClaudeFather
Watching him on Attard on the same PP unit is painful. One is a rookie, one has played 400+ games, but they both look completely out of their depth on an NHL power play right now.

Personally I think I would go with Laughton as captain. Seems to be the emotional leader of the team as it is. - MBFlyerfan
Seems unlikely that an NHL team's captain would be a 28 year old forward with a career high of 32 points.

Not too many teams pick a 3rd or 4th liner to be captain. I like Laughton but don't think he would be the right guy. I would go with Coots or Farabee. I don't get the hate for Coots on this board. The criticisms here about his injuries are overstated in my view. Farabee would be a dark horse candidate but he is very intense and would be a good choice in my view. |

I think I’d go Farabee as well. He’s at the age where he has support from older vets like Hayes, Couts and Laughton and can act as the bridge of the youth and vets. Plus, he’s a gamer. He doesn’t back down for fights and has already shown leader qualities. He’s arguably our best goal scorer too. |

A lot of people here are very bitter that the slow & unskilled 3C that they wanted traded for scraps had two 76 point seasons followed by a Selke winning one. Those nerds will never get over it. |

Bill, any chance Farabee gets the C?
I think he’s a dark horse. Seems like a natural leader since G left - arichardson22
I hope they go with a more veteran pick. I like Farabee a lot but I would wait 1-2 years to let him grow into the league first. Putting too much responsibility on young players too soon is not a good recipe.
3 A’s for a year maybe the best answer. If they do select a captain I only hope they pick the best person from a hockey standpoint vs a marketing view.
I don’t have much fair with this current management group. |

Staal is a little like Laughton but seems like a better scorer from my memory. Still true that selecting Laughton would be unlikely even considering Staal.

He seems to have some good captain qualities but he's still young and his game has inconsistencies. I'd rather he work on that without the weight of the C on his shoulders.

Probably but I don't buy the "the captain has to be your best scorer/player/marketing face" of the team. The right leader for the group is the right guy, regardless of stats.

Provorov has little chance of being the next captain. If it won't be Couturier, it will be Scott Laughton with Hayes an outside possibility.
Couturier, by the way, is not "always hurt". Before this season, the last time he missed a huge chunk of a season was in 2016-17. From 2017-18 through 2019-20, he missed a total of two games. Last season, he suffered a Costochondral separation in the second game of the season but after he got back in the lineup he was there the rest of the season and won the Bobby Clarke Trophy. - bmeltzer
Should I have said always playing hurt? The names you listed just tells me our next captain isn’t really here. Any player can prove me wrong, I’m just a fan. |

This. I have no idea who our right guy is tho. Ideally he’s someone we acquire because I don’t see too many guys stepping up on the ice or in interviews. Who knows about the locker room |

I’m also of this mindset. When Lindros was stripped of the “C” and handed to Desjardins, Rico couldn’t handle the weight of it. You would have thought that the next guy in line would be LeClair or Recchi but meetings were held and the Flyers wanted Primeau, who in my opinion was far from our best player at the time but turned out to be a solid captain. |

It would be a mistake to make a young player like Farabee who is still developing and finding his way the captaincy. No reason to place that weight on him.

It’ll probably Coots or Atkinson I’d imagine.
I’d say Hayes too but being butt hurt over Yandle doesn’t tell me he really gets it. |

I missed last night’s game. The ESPN app is the absolute worst.
I have a different take on captaincy for next season. I know it’s likely a foregone conclusion that Sean Couturier will be Captain next season. I guess you could make an argument for Kevin Hayes who everyone seems to love and clearly has the war of the GM bringing all his friends in. Can Atkinson also looks like a guy who has all the tools to be a captain.
Living in Detroit and seeing a lot of Wings games over the passed decade, Henrik Zetterberg retired along time ago and everyone always knew Dylan Larkin would be the next future captain but it came with a lot of time. I think the Flyers should go into all of next season with 3 A’s. This team is in need of an over haul and shouldn’t be looking for another captain right now.
With this said and I know I’m gonna get some heat for this. My next Captain would not be Sean Couturier. Sean is always hurt, I’ve never pegged him myself as a captain and he’s a little older now. My next captain would be Ivan Provorov. He plays the most minutes. Plays every games. He shows emotion out there. Most importantly he’s young and a core player. - SuperSchennBros
There is no rush to name a captain. I go next year without one. Lets see how year goes and how things develop. Rangers have no captain and they seem to be doing just fine without one and they certainly have many choices better then we do. |
