Let’s be honest. If Obrien showed that he was anywhere near ready for the pros over the past 4 seasons the Flyers would have sought an ELC. But he hasn’t so he will be playing his 5th season of post draft hockey next season still an amateur. Very unusual for a first round pick.

The captain decision will likely be dictated by the marketing side of things. Couturier or Hayes are going to be men handed the letter. For a team struggling to attract fans, I cannot see them going with Laughton.

It is a little funny to see Couturier mentioned, when apparently Giroux was labelled as being too quiet in the role.

Claude would be the easy answer, but we must remember the Flyers chose to allocate cap space to Ristolainen for multiple seasons, instead of bringing back Giroux to finish his career in Philadelphia.

I don’t know who Hextall listened to but Obrien is the only first round pick to be drafted out of a New England prep school since Chris Kreider in 2009. The competition there is nowhere near what it was 15-20 years ago. So whatever he Flyers saw in Obrien he did it against much lesser competition.

I think there was this idea that Giroux as a player is no longer what he was, which may or may not be true but Giroux gets traded and becomes a dangerous threat again every night. This says everything we need to know about this team. Our GM and coach both are Incompetent. It really starts at the top. So many are down on Ivan Provorov for example. How can a young player go from promising and showing season after season how promising he is, to average, if not below average? One player can only do so much.

You nailed it about Coots. I'm a big fan of Coots but I can already hear the complaints about him not being vocal, etc. I have a feeling it will be Hayes, but I don't like it bc of his injury history plus he isn't really that inspiring as a player. I'd love a Landeskog type as captain but we don't have anyone like that. Based on the current roster, I'd go Farabee or Provy.

I agree about Provy. He is now like Giroux and expected to carry a lousy team. Damn shame how bad we are.

There is no rush to name a captain. I go next year without one. Lets see how year goes and how things develop. Rangers have no captain and they seem to be doing just fine without one and they certainly have many choices better then we do.

Hayes is your next captain IMO. Thanks! I wanted Atkinson, but he has gone MIA since Giroux's departure. Hayes has stepped up and put the team on his shoulders. Couturier simply isn't captain material in my eyes. The dude seems like an introvert and this team needs some gusto!! Thanks!
