Whoever signs Kadri will regret it, IMO.

Career high of 60 points prior to this year, 5 years ago.

I stay far far away from that contract.

Good 2nd line center, will be a good 3rd line guy in 2 years.

Going to get 7+ a year for long 5 years.

If I were a GM, I'd need to see Kadri make it through one playoffs without getting suspended lol

Hey all. EK, love the question. Who is Nazem Kadri? A top six C with grit, scoring touch, and a strong reputation.

The open market will scram double his current salary, thanks Lou!

I do see an overpayment, though I would see a smarter GM look at ROR money, though Duchene and Johansen may push it toward that number.

If I am a GM, I go short term, 3 years at most, for around $7.7M.

I fully expect GMs to go 7 by $8.5-9 in July

Love your articles Zak, your a good writer!

And I agree with you here. One good season can erase a lot (take note those who are calling him out for his past) but I think the money may be a little lower, 5.5-6M. however.

Then you'd need to go watch the 2013, 2017 or 2020 playoffs. The 2020 playoffs where he had 19 points in 14 games would be a particularly good set to watch.

Guerin: Hi Naz. Bill Guerin. How would you like to play 1C between Karill and Mats? That’s right. Two playmaking wingers that will get you 50 goals. Hell, they’re getting Ryan Hartman 30. I can only pay you $1 mil for the next 3 years. Pesky cap issues. But endorsements with Target, TCF Bank, First Bank and Wells Fargo will dwarf any salary you’d be getting from anyone else. Hello? Naz?

Hey, what's not to like? He can score. He can win faceoffs. He can injure opposing players. Where is the drawback?

If Colorado offers him a fair, team friendly deal for 8 years, he'd be smart to take it. Financial security and a winning team, no better way to round out a career.

Colorado is still on the hunt for MAF. Kuemper is a weak link so he's going to walk this summer. Sakic will sign MAF to big money. Ek also said they are after Drouin because he played with MacKinnon in junior. Don't forget Giroux coming to the Avs which was an E4 but should be elevated to E5 this summer. No room for Kadri. He'll probably go to NYR, Philly, Boston, Florida, Minny...basically the same 5 teams who are in on everyone, every time.

This is a gracious thing to say, but you want to establish credibility with your pitch to Kadri.

Yes. I’m sure the market will be ripe for a then 35 year old Cary Price with a cap hit of 10.5m for 4 more years….four straight years of declining production AND he didn’t play this year because of “personal issues”. NEXT

He's had a great year, but I wouldn't bite on a big contract with him. I doubt he's going to age similar to someone like Pavelski. I predict he'll take a discount to stay in Colorado.

Leafy fans and snowflakes do not like Kadri.
Too much drive to win and loyalty for team mates.
Leaf fans would have a seizure if they saw one of their own actually standing up to the opposition.

Kadri has been very vocal about how he was a diehard Habs fan growing up despite the unfortunate event of being drafted by toronto, that would lead one to believe that Kenty and Gorto have the inside track come July 13th.

If I could remind folks of the point of the exercise.

It’s about making a pitch for a free agent not arguing over if he is worth x or better than y.

That is all.

Kadri is 32, never produced like this previously, and is a product of the talent in the Avs system.....easy pass on signing him, let some other GM make that mistake.

Agreed, if he goes to a mediocre team he’ll be up to his old frustrating tricks and end up with more time off.

Moving free agent day to my mother’s birthday was very considerate.

I would make a call about Kadri, how many years and what kind of $$. But I wouldn’t actively pursue. But I would use that info potentially (I can’t give you Kadri money). But mostly to know how tied up someone’s cap was about to get.

Well, we know the Habs are enticing, and obviously fit was good in Colorado. But hear me out. We re-signed Bergy for 3 years with a reasonable AAV. We got Pasta locked in. With you in town, Charlie slides to 3C giving us one of the best 3 headed monsters in the East if not league wide.
I know we’ve seemed on the downslide lately, but losing Kreech killed us, and you are the cure for that wound.
We also noticed you do a LOT better with bigger wingers on your line to back ya up when it gets chippy, so we’ve sent Debrusk to ARI for Lawson Crouse (locked in at a lower rate as well!) and a 2nd Rounder which we paired with Ullmark, Studnicka, V. Berglund, and Beecher to snag Johnny Gibson, Jackson LaCombe, and Max Comtois. What do you say? Would 6yrs/7.375aav/$44.25M get it done? Gotta keep ya under Bergy’s 7.5 and Pasta’s 8.125, and our #1D in McAvoy at 9.5, but that slots ya firmly in at #4 for us.

And the cap…?

Additionally we’ve made room cap wise by shipping out Craig Smith to CAR for Michael McCarron and a 5th, giving us a heavyweight Sheriff to help ease the liberal flow of cheap shots, Nosek is now a Coyote in exchange for nice fill guy Liam O’Brien and a 7th, and Haula is a Flyer, he always wanted to be a Flyer, and is so proud to be in Philly in exchange for Connor McClennon and a 6th. Forbort is now in SJS and we got a 4th for him. Joshua Brown re-upped keeping a balanced D. Rielly is also gone to the Island making up for the gap left ever since D. Toews was dealt. Lou sent me a 3rd and Future Considerations for my troubles.
Grzelcyk is now a Jet while receiving D Dylan Samberg, LW Kristian Vesalainen, and a 7th

As you know we’ve fortified with adding Will Butcher at 3yrs/1.5aav/$4.5M) and Ian Cole at 2yrs/2.25aav/$4.5M
Let us know what ya think.
