Matthews only under contract until 23/24, didn’t realize he only signed a 5 year contract. That Tavares contract is ugly.

Oh yea, Safe to say Dubas did not get any favors on the totals of those contracts. Nylander probably underpaid but the rest of them he was taken to the woodshed. And he’s going to again bu Matthews.

The players are all receiving fair value and the leafs are getting solid value for money on all off them.

Wouldn't be nice if the Flyers had players that actually played up to their contacts year in and year out?

Attard and York have made the same mistakes. On the Grant goal last night, York doesn't seal off the player on the wall and then after getting possession, turned it over leading to the goal. York is not a top pair player right now but shows a lot of promise.
- MJL

I’m really hoping Attard isn’t a serious option for next season.

yeah, you can say what you want about playoff success but its hard to see any of those contracts as not returning at least market value.

matthews is going to get paid, but what can you do?

Joel Farabee, Carter Hart, Ivan Provorov, Travis Konency, Cam York, Morgan Frost, Owen Tippett, and Oskar Lindblom. All 25 years old age or younger, with NHL experience. A lot of talk of getting rid of James van Riemsdyk but what we may need to do is move on from one of those young names and package them to get something legitimate in this line up. My vote is Konency, if this is even possible.

Why? I’m hoping he continues to get better every game down the stretch. If they were a contender then maybe he wouldn’t be viewed as an option…but they are not…..with a salary cap the kids have to play…and produce.

Matthews is the best player in the league in my opinion.

Absolutely, let’s see in the playoffs though. Nylander was the only one to show up last year. Tavares contract is bad. Matthews the term is really going to kill him. They might be playing to value but he didn’t do a good job. Good problem to have though, they have elite talent.

He’s been out of this world lately but I still take McDavid if I’m starting from scratch. Matthews team is significantly better than Oilers. It’s different when if you don’t have two points on the night there’s next to no chance of winning.

Yeah, a Selke level defensive player that just happens to be the best natural goal scorer in the league as well.

McDavid 1.50 points per game. Matthews 1.48 points per game and he's one of the best defensive centers in the league.

And they are on totally different teams. The weight that McDavid shoulders is much more than Matthews. He’s had very poor playoff stats as well and has not heard much criticism.

McDavid plays a lot with Draisatl. We could flip a coin and be happy if you lost the toss.

While I agree with your sentiment, this is the Flyers led by Clarke and Holmgren that we are talking about. We do not have a youth movement and never will as long as they and Comcast are in charge. We will continue to be a very vanilla, boring, grinding bubble team that is perpetually 2-3 player away.
- mr4tno

Clarke has not run the team in a longtime.

Hart had one bad game and another with a few fluky goals....you made it like Jones was a Vezina candidate compared to Hart. But the Frost point elucidates your moroness to a T.
- THE BLACK HAND

Don't you get tired of getting owned on here? Now you're trying to cover your tracks by saying I made it sound like Jones was a Vezina candidate. Where the hell did I EVER imply that? I made a simple comment and for some reason you're trying to complicate it. Jones has been playing better than Hart lately. Do you comprehend or should I type it slower? I'd be very careful about using the word "moron" if I was walking in your shoes. Thanks again!

They are allowed to. They are rookies. The fact is York has made Prov better. Attard shows promise and he does things other d here simply do not do.

He should be granted the same latitude as Prov, Sanheim and Risto all of whom who have looked just as bad as Attard at times this year.

I don’t think this is a big secret. Harts a little nicked up and has not had his A Game of late. Jones to me is a good backup and playing well right now . Where’s the issue?

Matthews?

- Joe Nardone

His play in his own end has really improved this year. It helps he always seems to have the puck. If I had to pick an MVP…I go with Mathews. I would have always thought he was a bit behind Mcdavid ….I don’t think that’s true anymore.
