Sorry if I missed it, did Johnson say he's returning already? I know the goalies have stated such, but didn't know about him. That's a huge loss IMO. If I was the Sabres I would stop drafting NCAA players permanently until we're a desired destination again.

Some of these are still early

Mercer has been great and looks like a steal even though he did drop in the draft

I still think Holtz will be a very good sniper and is already showing it in Utica and was saying it took some time to get used to US rinks

I think post draft rankings should be 4 seasons before looking back and saying this player should have been higher especially when some haven't played in the NHL just due to their development phase and nothing to to with how they play

There are also teams that pick most NHL ready immediately over future projections

Adam Fantilli is already projected to go #3 next year

One thing i would be curious about with these kids is when do they actually complete their degree? With their schedules hectic during the year I assume they take some summer classes, so i would think they actually graduate early

If the Plan is to go to UFA status for Portilo and Johnson, I would hope the Family Advisor would have the balls to say it to Adams now so he can plan accordingly.

I agree with trading them both now...especially Portilo with a virtual empty net staring him in the face, his college team graduating many of his teammates and the Team undergoing an investigation.

You would think there isnt a better team with an 'easier" route to NHL games right? One person ive talked to would say MTL Price successor but even that i wasnt too sure about

Maybe Portillo realizes Levi is just better

Idk Portillo’s background, maybe his family is comfortable enough to where he doesn’t feel the need to immediately jump for the money. Maybe he promised his mom he would finish school.
It’s up to Adams to ascertain if he is angling for FA, and then act accordingly.

If you are Adam’s do you look to package them this off-season?

You have to think he has at least an idea of they’d sign by now. And if the scales are tipped in them not signing, you need to try and move / package the assets, don’t you?
