Pretty even yeah. that first period was honestly stunning. Haven't seen the Canes struggle to get the puck out of their own end like that in a long time. Rangers speed was definitely a problem for Smith/Cole. - BINGO!
Hurricanes penalty killing is just outstanding, its incredibly frustrating to play against it

It their whole team defense. I think its best in the league. Why the Rangers need to be like Vatrano, shoot it from anywhere |

The attitude around it is cool. When guys talk about it, they always say they're "getting an opportunity to kill a penalty." It's never a negative thing. Always a chance to show off, to impact the game.

I'd seriously consider putting Vatrano on PP1

He is our only shoot first guy, besides Trouba. Everyone else loves the pass
There were times in the first where they would make like 4 passes and then give away the 5th pass. I'm screaming at my tv, shoot the (frank)ing puck! |

Yup thought the Rangers were good in the 1st, needed more shots though, 2nd was pretty even, you guy were better in the 3rd. Was actually a fun game to watch, except for the score - mdw7413
Yeah The Rangers definitely needed to get more to the net on the chances they had.
Still, even in the third when Strome went RIGHT THROUGH Slavin, haven't seen anybody even try that in a long time. I think he shocked Slavin by trying it. It was cool.
You CAN beat the Canes D by just going right at them. They try to angle you into little traps all over the ice. If you attack the defenders straight on, they struggle with it a bit. |

Probably the best player last night for NYR. Guy is tenacious. |

Noticed that with Panarin a few times in the first where he went right at the D. I was sitting here thinking, poop, I hope none of them stand up on him because he might get flattened. |

Interestingly looking at the numbers from last night, Trouba-Miller were probably the best players on the ice.
Panarin line did well at first but struggled through the entire second half vs the Aho unit |

I had my doubts about Trouba after his first year here, but he has been fantastic. Him and Miller really play well together. Miller just keeps getting better.
Oh yeah, and thanks for Gauthier. |

The game was still 1-0 when Vatrano came down and rang that blast off the post. Game would have completely changed if we go up 2-0 there. Shame he just missed... |

That was actually off the shoulder of Anderson. Credit to him, 'cause you're right. Would have changed everything. |

Amazing how 1/2 of their defenseman were all guys that we couldn’t stand for the most part over here and now they’re considered one of the best defenses in the league. Maybe it was Quinn more so than the players themselves ….. Smith TonyD Skjei |

I had no issue with Skjei. Smith's only issue was his contract (and apparently now he crosschecks people in the head). Slavin, Pesce, and Cole are all very good defenders. Put that together with them having some very good defensive forwards and a good defensive system and that's a recipe for a top tier defensive team. He who shall not be named is a luxury they can afford to have because of the team and system they have around him. That being said, I don't think DQ is a very good NHL level coach given the small sample size.

We just don't play well against good defensive teams. We are 12-12-1 against the top 11 defenses (the best 10 teams besides us). 4-11-1 if you exclude Boston, Tampa, and Pitt as we just seem to match up well against them and the 2 latter teams aren't really defensive minded teams per se |
