We just don't play well against good defensive teams. We are 12-12-1 against the top 11 defenses (the best 10 teams besides us). 4-11-1 if you exclude Boston, Tampa, and Pitt as we just seem to match up well against them and the 2 latter teams aren't really defensive minded teams per se
- picklerick

Well then, let's just hope those are the 3 teams we need to get through to the SCF!!

Kravtsov will begin his off-season training regimen in Russia rather than join Rangers for playoff run, but the plan is for him to arrive in NY early this summer to get head start on camp, Post has learned. Discussion today between Drury and Kravtsov's agent, Dan Milstein.

Just has to fall in line like everyone else who has an employer. If not then he can become his own boss doing something else for a living

If there’s talks that’s a good sign at least. Maybe the organization looked at it like why reward with the playoffs after the stunt he pulled.

There's literally no room for him unless he plays on the 4th line

and, I was right about Nils

I never said Nils was better than Schneider

I said because he was older that he would get first crack with the Rangers and that's exactly what happened

I never saw either one of Nils or Schneider play a game before this season

now that I have seen them both play, Schneider is much better for sure

I think they should try all combinations, (except leave Kreider-Zib-Vatrano in tact) before the season is over

they need to put a little distance still though between them and Pittsburgh though

tonight's a must, they can't risk losing home ice in first round

- jimbro83

They need 5 points to secure home ice in the 1st round.
Pitts is closer to getting passed by Washington then catching us. WSH is 3 points back with 2 games in hand. They are catching fire and would be a tougher match up.

I'll feel very relieved if we just get the two points tonight

I had no issue with Skjei. Smith's only issue was his contract (and apparently now he crosschecks people in the head). Slavin, Pesce, and Cole are all very good defenders. Put that together with them having some very good defensive forwards and a good defensive system and that's a recipe for a top tier defensive team. He who shall not be named is a luxury they can afford to have because of the team and system they have around him. That being said, I don't think DQ is a very good NHL level coach given the small sample size.

For what it's worth, Tony still (frank)ing sucks defensively, and when the D core is healthy Smith doesn't see the ice.

The ideal grouping for the Canes is

Slavin - Bear
Skjei - Pesce
Cole - DeAngelo

The thing about the Canes is that, generally speaking, it's the forwards that have to do most of the heavy lifting on defense. The D largely just have to make sure they're getting in the way and not getting beat clean.

Who knows what’s going to go on with Vatrano Copp and Strome. I wouldn’t be shocked if Laf or Kakko is traded for a young center, not saying it’s likely but if it happened I wouldn’t be shocked.
