Here’s my take on Miller, the canucks gave him an opportunity that no one would have, the right thing to do would be to give back, we will see. - Bettmanhatesus
He’s acknowledged as much & his family likes Vancouver & the hockey passion. He’s resigning unless the offer is a lowball. |

Interesting read from Dayal, interviewed Garland for The Athletic.. some quotes:
When you look at the year you’ve had and obviously there’s still some time left but on an individual level, how do you think you’ve handled the transition/adjustment here and how do you think you’ve performed?
Well, I’ve never been traded before so I didn’t know coming in what to expect. I think the year for me personally has gone really poorly.
I just haven’t felt like myself all year. I haven’t played a game from start to finish where I felt like myself. I think about last year where you just play — my coach in the American League used to say “When you play with a clear head you play well” and I haven’t been able to play like that all year. I don’t know why but it just has happened.
But I’ve had some good games, some really, really bad games and there hasn’t been much consistency this year so it’s been a frustrating year but we’re in a chance where we can run the table or go 7-1 and make the playoffs and it can be a great year so that’s what my focus is on.
But obviously, personally, it hasn’t gone as well as I would have liked.
Do you have any idea maybe why it’s been difficult to play clear-headed?
No, it’s not quite like that, I should have phrased it differently. I think it’s just that when you play poorly it adds on (pressure) and then you want to play better and better and it’s hard to get out of that. I understand it’s a trade and it’s a new city, new team, new teammates, new linemates, new coaches — we’ve gone through two coaches this year — so it’s been a lot of change for me.
I don’t love change, I like having the same thing over and over again and it’s been tough to adjust to that. But that’s on me, I have to be a lot better. I’m confident next year I’m going to be a lot better and that’s also I have to train a lot better in the offseason, train harder, work on stuff in my game that’s not great right now.
I’m very confident that I’m going to have a great year but I’m more confident that I can finish the season well. These are big games, that’s really where my only focus is on is winning these games.
With management change, there’s been a ton of moving parts and it feels like so many players have ended up in trade rumours. After leaving Arizona, you sign a long-term extension and you hope you’re settled here. Was it tough or annoying to deal with some of the rumours that came up ahead of the deadline?
It was odd obviously, right? But that’s part of the business, I don’t have any trade protection.
I understand where I’m at as a player. When you don’t perform well teams look to upgrade and I haven’t performed well enough — I don’t know why they wanted to or why there were rumours, I have no idea.
But yeah it’s tough I would say. I don’t want to go anywhere. I like it here. I would really like the chance to come back and be the player I am here with this group of guys. There’s a really good group in there and I love them. It would be disappointing to get moved but that’s something that’s out of my control.
As much as guys say they don’t think about it, when you see it online all day or on TV all day, then yeah, you think about it and hope it doesn’t happen but it’s part of the business. I guess it was odd to see but I could have handled it a lot better. I think it affected me a little bit. I guess that’s something I’ve gotta get a bit better at as well, I don’t have any trade protection for the next four years (laughs).
You said heading into the offseason you’re going to be really motivated to improve on this season and you mentioned addressing some parts of your game. What do you have in mind — are there a couple of things that really stick out?
Yeah, first and foremost my shot. I think I have 160 shots this year even strength, maybe even higher, and I only have 13 even-strength goals, that’s not good enough. So obviously my shot needs to get better.
I understand that I use a small stick and there’s advantages to that but I have to find something whether I go lower flex, better curve, more of a toe curve for a harder shot or a longer stick, I’ll find something to see what works.
I’ll probably hire somebody to help me with that and just get better at my shot because I get too close to the net and too many shots five-on-five that don’t go in that should in. That’s something that if I get better, I can become a more lethal player. |

Good article. I like the fact Garland is intense & driven & points out what he feels he has to work on. A sign of a pro & always room to improve. Pod imo is like that & will get better & better as will others. So many young players that can do this working on weakness that’ll push the team to the next levels. Add more internal competition & the future brightens. |

Welll that’s 1 more round than the Canucks. At least I won’t be sitting there during the playoffs saying if only we had held onto that extra pick. I told everyone and no one would listen, stupid Alvin!
I’m thinking one of us might enjoy watching more than the other. |

If the Canucks win their last 7 (all/most in regulation, especially the game against LA), and Vegas loses at least one more game, they can bump LA out of the 3rd spot. So there's an outside chance of a Calgary vs Vancouver second rounder - NewYorkNuck
next four games are very tough:
vs dallas
vs ottawa
@ st paul
@ calgary
I believe vancouver will not reach the LA game with PO chances. |

That would be awesome after all this. Always makes the playoffs more interesting when there’s a Canadian team playing.

Definitely not going to be easy, but there's a slim slim chance they can. Would need Horvat to be playing, clearly. Would just be exciting down the stretch. They know they have to win out, hopefully that amps them up and they can do it. |

You will be the guy who spent 5 dollars on the Lotto 649 and lost and I will be the guy buying a hot dog on the beach with my 5 dollars.
Seriously if Canucks aren't in I doubt I will follow it. I already know St.Louis will win. |

One of the dumbest things you've ever said on here.... Bo has been on fire and not at all likely to take his foot off the gas if uninjured. Bo finds another gear in the playoffs and led goal scoring almost 2 full rounds after their exit last time. This is the time of the year he really shines.

Saving himself
More importantly, 50 year old Mike Smith with 2 shutouts in a row, he’s always been a competitor. He’s probably the most important Oiler for the playoffs.
Chucky 39g 95 pts and still a poop disturber, thanks Benning. - K-man25

Mike Smith last 8 starts:

43 career SO's.

Agree would be nice to see Miller back on a team friendly deal he knows the club is close and under Boudreau they would be fine. Speaking of opportunities heard from a buddy out east Hamonic is really liking Ottawa and being treated very well there. Must be nice to play for an organization where you aren't ostracized for your personal and private medical choices. Good for him. |
