If they don’t cock things up, Buffalo is looking pretty good moving forward. I bet they are better next year than this, after trading their best player. And Thomson is looking like a pretty good throw in from the ROR trade… - 1970vintage

Tage is looking like a beast. Sabres get a true starter & some better D depth & they will look pretty good.
I want them to build something meaningful, unlike Benning who just threw poop against the wall to see what sticks. They’ve got a few good building blocks from Benning losing so Goddamn much, I’d like to see them build on that. It’s not going to happen immediately but we’ve been waiting this long, what’s a few more years.
Build a proper defensive core that is heavier, taller, can transition the puck better and is way more mobile. Target a good young center in a Miller trade or a young defensemen. It can certainly be done, but it isn’t going to be done in one offseason. - LeftCoaster
History tells us JB’s coaching hires were his worst decisions he only compounded that with some trades & most UFA’s. Better coaches would’ve gotten more out of this team for sure. Where would we be if that was the case? Imo better market for our assets & not needing to sign UFA’s for the extra year etc.
Not sure about rage quit but now that you and Rosterhawk are besties when the season is over I might visit less . I am not sure how much of the two of your combined brain power I want to waste a summer on . If I want to see stuff as ridiculous as what you and your BFF spew out I can just turn on Beavis and Butthead. - VANTEL
rarely do you trade away your best players and immediately get better, Vancouver fans are as dumb as the rest of the leagues fans.
Much like the trade deadline you’ll probably see moves that are not meant to return immediate results, but rather, to address cap issues and build towards the future knowing the teams best players player are all relatively young. The exception being Miller, who’s on an expiring contract and should be moved either this summer or at some point next season. - LeftCoaster
I don't think anyone here expects them to be immediately better after trading their top players (just the old coots with comprehension problems that say that). Like you said it's about building a better team for the future, one that can compete for a cup instead of competing for a wild card spot.
Yeah, it’s a sad state they find themselves in. But to get the most out of that #3, I think he needs to do more of what he’s good at, instead of making him the #1 shutdown guy.
I think it’s potentially a way to get the most out of the team now, and set them up nicely for the future.
Think on it for a day, and then tell me why I’m wrong. Happy to listen, and happy to be wrong. - 1970vintage
It would make a lot more sense to draft and build a better defence. OEL could drop off the map in a year or two. Then have no one. Back into a full defensive rebuild right in the prime years of your current core, to suit 1 30 year old defenceman past his prime?

Or he gets injured, and you have no depth. Good points were raised, but just don't agree with the overall premise of trading Hughes.
OEL isn't ideal on this team, specifically because of his cap hit. If he and Myers were 50% cheaper, then that'd be a solid second pairing.

I don't think he has been bad so far. I hope the new GM isn't afraid to draft some D. Need an ELC or cheap contracts that out perform to combat those less than perfect salaries.

Nah, he's been steady. I read the other day, can't remember where, about Bouds or Allvin talking about how when players who play for one team for a long time and then get traded (referencing OEL), it takes them a season to adjust before they play like themselves. From social life to kids to teammates to systems to city etc etc it takes a while to adjust and feel comfortable... they said something along the lines of the first year people question "Why did we trade for this guy again?" and in the second year it starts to show.

Hope that's the case with OEL. - NewYorkNuck
Still doesn't change his inflated salary and the need to find cheap contracts to go with it. Extending Miller going to cost a bit more.

Definitely need younger, cheaper, better D to help balance the roster. Plus more forward depth.
Just saying if OEL can play better next year, his salary won't be inflated as much. He's still nowhere near 7.26 a year, but if he can play in a 5-6 mil range, that'd be very helpful.
Best way to get those young D and forwards and avoid a big extension to Miller is to trade him

Canucks have most of their own picks this coming draft. Make smart choices.

That post about trade Hughes to get a partner for OEL has to be one of the dumbest posts ever on here .
Thank fuck, that can't come soon enough - NewYorkNuck
Dude I haven't talked to you in almost a year? How fucken stupid can you be . Do what I do ignore posts. I skip over your posts all the time . It is rejuvenating not reading twits posts. I didn't even comment on the garbage you spewed when I did read your posts so I have no idea why your panties are in a bunch .
I suggest when you see my avatar scroll on by so you don't get in such a frenzy over a stranger that doesn't even know you exist.
