Sweet man, I haven't responded to you in the exact same time frame (outside of these two posts). Much harder to ignore your verbal diarrhea when you make up half the comments arguing and "trolling" 80% of the posters.

No one is in a frenzy (though some may be in a rage lately?), but man you think everyone cares so much to talk to you. Nobody cares about you and your moronic posting. You make yourself the center of everything... you're so very inconsequential. And if for some reason they put a block function in, I'd wager you'd be the most blocked regular on this blog – it's a much more pleasant place when you're not posting.

It would make a lot more sense to draft and build a better defence. OEL could drop off the map in a year or two. Then have no one. Back into a full defensive rebuild right in the prime years of your current core, to suit 1 30 year old defenceman past his prime?

That’s a fine strategy, but then you definitely need to move Horvat, Miller etc because it will take you 5-7 years to build the D when you’re starting with just Hughes.

That's why you gotta split the difference and trade for a couple younger players that can grow with Hughes and the rest of the core

Plus draft some D as well to supplant players as they age/price out

I wouldn't want a pick I'd tell the Canucks to retain 25 percent. Then he is well worth what he is being paid at least for now. Might even get a pick at that point like a 3rd or something

The question I would pose then, why do they HAVE to move one of them?

Your position on trading Hughes in the first place is to maximize/get full value out of OEL.... he's clearly not worth the 7 they're paying him, so what is he worth right now, as he fits in the team? Probably around 4.5? So you're at -2.5/3 mil... finding/trading for young players who are on ELC/cheaper contracts that have surplus value helps even that out.

Plus, OEL is a great insurance if Hughes goes down for a bit. He's proved he can step in to QB the first powerplay. That's added value to the team/his contract.

I think they can definitely work out a team with Hughes and OEL on it. They have overlapping skillsets, for sure, and Rathbone is basically the same mold all on the left side which may be a problem, but I don't think they HAVE to get rid of one to make the D work.
