boy oh boy did the temperature really change on Vic-O.

All credit to him. A large portion of the blame to whomever decided he needed to play hurt.

Disagree completely.
His raw numbers are up CONSIDERABLY from last season, at +32%.
His RATE from last season is up 10%.
Both of which were considerably impacted by playing through an injury that SIGNIFICANTLY affected his shooting ability for 30 games.

Furthermore, it seems disingenuous to knowly quote rate knowing said rate was impacted by the injury period. It would be interesting to break down said rate into 3 periods;
pre-injury,
injury,
post-injury
Once you do that, it is highly likely a different opinion would emerge.

Victor Olofsson 5v5 goals per 60 the last 3 years:

19-20: 0.47
20-21: 0.32
21-22: 0.71*

*This includes a huge scoring drought w/ an injured wrist.

If you take 10/14-10/31 and Olofsson since the All-Star break (2/7) it’s a 39 game sample. His 5v5 scoring rate:

🚨1.39🚨

Did it?
Or are they playing him where he properly belongs on a 3rd line?
I have said it for 2 years, he's a 3rd liner..problem was that 3rd liners typically have to have a decent defensive game as well...he struggled there for seasons...this year I have see a difference.
Now the issue is his contract. I wouldn't go too long nor too high. 3 or 4 x $5m

Some see it, some do not.

How much would you pay VO now?

When Tuch signed in 2018, his AAV was 6% of the cap.

At an $82.5M cap limit, that would be just under $5M per for Olofsson.

He's not as good as Tuch, to me, so $4.25M-$4.5M per.

I would not want to go long on term as Olofsson needs to show he can be healthy and produce all season before I'd really be willing to pay big to keep him.

Though he certainly has not embarrassed himself on the 1st line for 2 games, I agree here. A good team has a good third line. 74, 37, 71 looked, for a couple weeks, like a good third line (and that means playoff standard team). We clearly have a good 1st line also. The 2nd line is the "problem" because 2 of them are rookies. The fourth also is not as good as it should be because Eakin has deteriorated into crap.

Back to Vic though. A solid, solid 3rd liner who can replace an injured winger on the top line for two weeks if need be. That's pretty friggen important. If Krebs can muscle up a bit this offseason and Cozens can get a year better and the kids are alright (love the Who)....we can be a contender.

Assuming were not going with a dumpster fire in net.

You're right he's not, but Tuch's contract is an absolute steal. A fair number Alex Tuch's 45 Sabre games is probably 8 per.

3yr 15m sounds good. Still gives him a chance to cash another contract.

Solid post.
I have come around on VO due to his 5v5 improvement, which was a primary concern for me with respect to his production but moreso his defensive game. Again, south of 4 years $5m and I'm good...AND I would consider trading him to secure a more valuable piece like a hard-nosed, 20G LW or as a piece in a top 4 RhD.

The thing that worries me about trading him is I have not seen Quinn score goals in the NHL. It is always risky to trade a finisher. I certainly think Quinn will score, but if he has a tough rookie season and we dont have Vic...

I don't think that's fair. When a player's deemed healthy enough to play, he's gotta play. I think Donnie wanted/needed him to get that strength back in his wrist. I guess he could have been scratched for the next 15-20 games, but then you're removed from game shape (even more so).

It's tough that he struggled but I think he took the path he needed to take to get back to his game (even better I might add, all around)

It absolutely changed, and he has been most recently on the top line and spent 75% of his time against the top lines.

Watching this young upcoming team the one thing that seems to be lacking is the bottom six grit. Need a Tom Wilson and while he's at it bring in a goalie.
KA needs to address this before next year. Ship out Skinner and Okposo and bring in Price and Gallagher.

This season, especially post ASG, has been way more fun than rooting for a (frank)ing draft pick. Of course I'll root for a lottery win, but to go through the season enjoying the games and the team is something that feels good to embrace again. I don't think I was ever lower than 13 months ago, where games weren't even painful anymore, we were just simply counting the days and the games until the draft lottery like a prison sentence. The dissociation was real. It's good to not be there anymore.

There ya go!

That's the story of much of the fanbase. Since the RJ game especially, there's been a lot of people coming (relatively). The last game I was at, St. Louis, had as many people as the Vegas game.

Are you sure you're watching the right team? Okposo and Girgs have been fantastic on the 4th line and play a fairly heavy game. By far the best 4th line we've had in years.

Yeah I've noticed were' getting consistently in the 5 digits again. I'm curious to see what next season looks like. The team deserves to start getting its fans back.

In my opinion.
