I do think him and skinner should be shipped out. Value is high now so that's my reasoning.
I also don't think KA would trade Okposo without his blessing but he wouldn't bother asking Skinner

- Freddie krug

Last week I asked the board a question: if you could make Skinner's contract disappear for free, would you? I doubt that you could get anything in return so I just put a price tag of "free". I don't think we he has value in a trade for the same reason that we would consider getting rid of the contract: can we trust this turnaround or is it temporary?

You could probably get something for Okposo if the stars aligned, by why would you? The team needs leaders. Whatever we got for him in return wouldn't be worth the risk of hurting the team's growth.

Fair I guess, but it seems to ignore everything Okposo means to the team.

In the case of Skinner, if there weren't a HoF list of UFA forwards this year you could get fair value for him, but then he has to be replaced with another 30+ goal 1st line winger. Jeff Skinner plays against the best defensive players every game and has the most even strength goals on the team and he and Tage have on ice chemistry. When we have more cap space than any team in the NHL, there's no way I'm risking a Skinner trade.

- lacaprup

Agreed.
I don't understand the desire to trade him over the next 2 -3 seasons...sure if you get a 20 yo 30G ok

I'm thinking it's time to go high on a goalie. I would rather pay someone like Price or Bob 10 mil
now to use cap over Skinner.
They probably could afford both a tender and a skinner but they won't.

Skinners contract has yet to hurt us in fact this season and the next it’s more of a blessing

They are currently much much better with Skinner and Okposo (even though Skinner's mistakes on D drive me bonkers). Do we trust that we're going to see this Skinner for the rest of his contract? That's the question. After all, he has been more bad than good with us.

"Ralph" Skinner and "Meatballs" Skinner are night and day.

There shouldn't be any reason Jeff won't or can't give us at least 25 goals a year going forward.

We're going to need his celery, anyway, for a couple years.

Right - in the short term his contract actually helps us. Just playing devil's advocate here. But remember, in the year that Skinner scored 40 he disappeared well before the end of that season (while playing with Jack) and that was before Ralphie was even here.

Anyway, I would still keep him but I would certainly listen if someone wanted to take him off of our hands.

I don't know if I can un-read this. Those are two of the worst contracts in the history of the game.

This dude clearly reads Sabresbuzz or listens to WGR. I pump his tires a little bit and boom. Maybe my new favorite non Sabre.

He’s a joy to watch play, even more so when sitting in the stands. Just a great hockey player. The OT goal was awesome, froze the goalie by waiting to tip the feed from Hubie until the last possible moment. Most would’ve tipped it right at top of the crease, he waves his stick as if he gonna tip it, Sorokin was ready for it, but he waited to redirect the puck until the goalie was toast. Gets better every time you replay it.

When? If anything Jeff Skinner has a resume that has shown he is still in his prime. If guys have a healthy lifestyle they can play easily until 35 at an elite level. He isn't close to that old. Remember he came into the league at 18.

Edit: didn't mean to imply you were saying it's a problem. I see you're questioning too

Theoretical question:

Would you trade this year's first (our first) and next year's first for #1 overall this year?

Pros: The kid is really good and has been tearing it up in recent weeks. Also, he would probably start here next year.

Cons: Next year is the Bedard draft

Skinner also appears to keep things light with the team and "wants to be here"

Not sure, I'm on the fence. In a couple years I'd expect him to slow down a bit, most guys do in their 30s. If he is still putting home 25, then he's a keeper, just not sure how long that will last tbh. He's expensive enough to make me pause at least, seems I'm an outlier though.
