Easiest thing to fix for a player.

Hell, we've seen it first hand with Samuelsson.

Don't get fooled and miss on a top quality player due to that.

You sure about that? I don't know if his skating was better than everyone thought or if he actually did improve. I can think of a lot of players that never seemed to improve in that area. I think I'd always lean towards players that skate really well (as Vegas did in the expansion draft).

Yes.

Samuelsson was not a good skater when he was drafted and it has improved majorly.

I'm taking the player that has skill and a history of production over the player that can skate well but has lesser skill and a lower history of production.

Sure, but part of figuring out a player's value at the next level is projecting them against players at that level. In many cases you can get away with mediocre skating at the lower levels (see Grigorenko). I think if Skunk were an above-average skater then he would be a 1c and an even better player than he is now. But he probably isn't a good example because he is an average (or slightly below) skater and not a terrible skater.

Grigorenko also had effort issues.

How is O'Reilly as a skater? He's one example but there are numerous others.

Brayden Point was drafted lower due to his skating and size.

Jason Robertson is another example.

I'll take the chance on skill and production with an improvement in skating needed over skating but improvement needed in skill and production.

People love Lambert's skillset, including his skating. His production and effort are lacking.

Doesn't that prove the point that guys with skill and a history or production will figure out how to produce at the NHL level even if they aren't great skaters?

mark mancari vs olofsson

if mancari could have found that extra step he would have been a fixture in the nhl with his shot

and they tried many summers to get him that extra step

Sure, but that's also an example of how one can be limited at the next level because of skating. 23 had excellent tools and could skate "good enough". ROR had to work to be "good enough". With Sameulson there were concerns about him getting to "good enough". In the case of a guy like Moulson, "good enough" was good enough until he got a little bit older. Then he fell off of a cliff.

Of course production and skating are only two components of a prospect.

Has anyone noticed while echiel was here he never got endorsement from local businesses the way other sabres and bills have? If local businesses don’t want you you really have to be a big a hole

Major skating issue is the easiest thing to fix for a player?

Please explain....

Ever heard the coaches old term "can't teach speed"

Players can't be taught size either ☝️

My guess is that he priced himself pretty high. There aren't many current Sabres that are getting local endorsements either. At this point, if you're going to pay a lot for that, you might as well get a Bills player like Josh Allen (see West Herr).
