Better all around?

No.

His release is absolutely absurd though. Never seen anything like it. Kid is going to be incredible so long as he keeps putting in the work.

This isn't a Tavares "Set records by standing near the net" type thing.

Evander Kane

Did I miss a level?

You forgot Ace. But it's only applicable to Russians. For example, Malkin is definitely a superstar, but he has never been an Ace.

I got Bedard AND Shane Wright in my legacy fantasy league's "minor league" program.

I took McJesus as a 16 year old (we only pay $1 to draft him with $1 per year to hold him and $1 to bring him up).

I took Matthews there too.

It's Connor McDavid. Not Conor. And Bedard won't even come close. Also, what does this sentence mean?

he follows the Auston Matthews path off going pro for a year in Europe top push himself

Good to see someone read the blog and didn’t just come for the comments

Well it takes 30 seconds to read. Then another 30 seconds to re-read and interpret.

The note about Matthews playing in Europe is misleading. First, Matthews was 2 days away from being drafted in McDavid's class. So it was obvious it would be a 1-year deal...CHL, NCAA, or Europe...before starring in the NHL. No real point going the college route for a single year and then dropping out. CHL was a viable option. I'm sure if he were Canadian he probably would have done that. But maybe his agent and advisors figured he'd get the best benefit playing against men rather than teenagers. Made sense in his case. Bedard is small. There is no way he leaves the CHL to get beat up in Europe. Totally absurd.

Always an odd concept to me. Plenty of players are better "all-around" with no weaknesses in their games. But they also don't have unique skills either and fall far inferior value-wise.

It's a tough thing to measure. being super elite at one thing can make you more valuable than somebody who's just "good" at everything.

As an open ice offensive threat, McDavid is the most dominant I've ever seen. Maybe archived footage of Bobby Orr compares, but no one I've seen in ~35 years does. I would still take a number of centers over him (Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby). As most probably would as well.

Egor Korshkov has 1 goal in 1 NHL game, putting him at the highest goal per goal total in NHL history. HOF coming

Both of which would be better starts than Edmonton.

I’d Wonder if the hawks got Bedard if they’d commit to their 3-5 year plan for the rebuild, or get Shane Wright this year

He will be better than McDavid but not better than Austin Mathews.

When did you become such a lazy predictable troll? Your shtick was never good, but it used to be original at least. You should try getting outside sometime.

I honestly don't even know how to define "better" so I hate these questions. Like, is McDavid even the best in the game? There are arguement to be made for MacKinnon, Matthews, Barkov, and Sid . And, these players all have different games. It's like trying to argue who's the best ever in the game... People can have opinions on what they value, but they're completely subjective.

I feel like Bedard will be a generational/franchise talent IF he grow another inch or two. But, his game is completely different than McDavid's.

You're right, it's subjective; depends on which generation and/or which franchise is being evaluated.

I know you don’t come around much so you may have missed the countless times Ek has told us all how Matthews is the bestest…
