I think the relationship is too far gone. Fully expect Drury to trade him for a 2nd or 3rd rounder at the draft. We don't seem to care too much about asset management when the player doesn't obey management.

Perhaps the problem lies with putting any sort of expectations of them.
No two players are alike, just like no two draft classes are alike. These kids are all different people with different psyches, different personalities, different upbringings and different abilities to cope with the changes of moving to the biggest city in North America and becoming millionaires.
Who the (frank) are we, or the "experts" for that matter, to call them disappointments for not scoring to a preconceived level of performance based on nothing but uninformed opinions? If you want to give a true, fair assessment of his play, you'll have to wait until he retires. You may not like that, but it is true.
I see a kid who is better than he was last year and has the potential to be great. Aside from that, I cheer everytime he does something well and that's about it.

So where exactly is this magical "expected them to be point range"? Did you expect him to be better than Panarin, or better than Kreider having a career year. These aren't excuses. These are just facts you don't like. He gets no PP time. So if the team wasn't as deep as it is he could easily have more points. You are basing his year on your own biases without realizing why he has the point total he does. He was playing his off wing, which he admitted he wasn't comfortable with, to try to get him in the Top 6. None of these things are excuses.
