It's not so much "writing him off" as a 3rd liner, but if you're going to build a team that wants to roll 3 scoring lines, like they seem to be, his skillset projects to be perfect for that 3rd role. In other words, go get a center that's better than he is, not worse.

And improved skating doesn't happen.
