I’m not the one making trade proposals that are a joke

Putting an offensive player in a defensive role is just gonna overwhelm him & kill his confidence

Better off just keeping him in Rochester if that’s your plan for him

Also….
With Asplund in your “top9” it would be logical to just swap him with JJ
Asplund is a much better fit on a defensive line

- jdfitz77

Asplund is a great fit on a scoring line with players with notable defensive deficiencies.

JJ can’t play on the 4th line but Okposo and his 20 goals and 45 points can ?

Perhaps it isn’t your typical 4th line and with that much forward depth the Sabres would make noise next year ?

Asplund played with Okposo and Cozens today. I thought it was pretty effective. I did not like Bjork, Z, and Vinne from what I saw, but Vinnie did cash a goal. I mean we basically ran them out of the bhilding for 2 periods before the 3rd, so I'm probably wrong about that line. I was close to the ice. Hard to get a great view of everything.
Another great game.

Olofsson this year has showed he’s much more than a one trick pony when not playing injured.

Just a matter of how much that is going to cost us now and for how many years is the question

Okposo has proven he can play in a heavy defensive role
Peterka is a rookie & it doesn’t make sense to put him in that situation

And i don’t think it would be a typical 4th line
But i do think they’d continue to be heavily used in defensive situations

So your solution would be to put Peterka with Krebs and Olofsson and make them the de facto 4th line in terms of minutes played cause the Asplund-Girgs-Okposo line would have to play nearly top 6 minutes since they would be the only forward line with anybody that can actually defend ?

Do u wanna keep that line together when Quinn & Peterka are up here?
That is a solid “2way” line for us, which I’m ok with

But when you’re replacing guys like Bjork & Vinnie with our young & talented scorers, it gets a bit harder to make it work
Are u gonna have Girgs Center the kids?
I don’t see it

Tuch - Tage - Skinner
Asplund - Mitts - Olofsson
Peterka - Krebs - Quinn
Okposo - Z/Cozens - Cozens/Z
Bjork 13th
This is the best forward lineup they can make without bringing in from the outside.

That “4th line” of yours would be in that role even if Peterka is on it
Every team has the line they trust in tough defensive situations
Putting Peterka, an offensively talented rookie, in that role is a mistake imo

Put the kid in a situation where he can succeed,
even if it’s in limited minutes

Also, remember these last 9 games are all experiment for the forward lines. Maybe Don keeps them, but maybe he goes back to the pre Flyers games lineup.

I don’t wanna put Cozens in heavy defensive situations until he grows his offensive game more
Swap him & Asplund imo

We aren’t talking about the lines for these last few games
We were talking about what the lines should look like next year & moving forward

I kind of fell in love with my second line there, and want to see them again. Cozens should be made into a defensive tank, IMO. Two years logging nasty icetime with Z and Okposo could make him a SOB to play against.

I kind of think we're seeing Cozens offensive peak. I don't think he has goalscorer's hands. He's a 45-50 point fella in a good year or a bad year going forward i imagine. Lots of room to improve as a bottom 6 player though. Lots.

Next year, I’d make the lines something like this:

Skinner-Tage-Olofsson
*Olofsson fits just fine on that line imo

Asplund-Girgs-Okposo
*swap Asplund & Girgs depending on who looks better at Center
This line gets the majority of the toughest defensive assignments

Krebs-Mitts-Tuch
*this line should be capable of SOME defensive icetime

Peterka-Cozens-Quinn
*Cozens is fairly responsible defensively & these 3 kids should light it up offensively
This is also NOT a “4th” line. I think it would roughly get decent 5v5 time that would grow as the season goes along
Cozens could also move up & play with Tuch, and Mitts or Krebs could take his place on this line

So like. Where would this team be if Reinhart had re-signed long-term? Would he still be at a .ppg and would it have equated to 5 more wins, 10 more points and comfortably in that 9th place bubble all year?

I usually hate the "what if" game, but if skunk is here and Anderson stayed healthy, we could have been right outside of that 8th sport all year... Maybe finished at like 90 points? Add 5 more wins and say half the OT losses and that's about 15 extra points as is and that would have us at 88 right now. Still not close to Washington but still a cut above all the other bottom dwellers.

Morale victory? Idk. It would have proven once and for all that Eichel was the problem for sure.

I think it’s important to develop Cozens offensive game as well
We want him to eventually be our “Bergeron”
& not our Larsson

Just got home from the game. So much fun this afternoon.

Skinner was in the Isles head all game. Can't wait to see him in the playoffs next season.

Man I wish it was October already.
