If the team is more or less what it is this year, next year, there will be nothing “feel good” about it.

Everything from here on out should be about winning

- sbroads24

Agreed, but it still won't stop the majority of the fanbase to find a reason to be excited about "the future".

It's not just about doubts. If one of those 2 go down with injury, and I will throw Tuch in there too, where's the replacement offense coming from? The only one who remotely has the ability to score at that clip is Olofsson and he's incredibly streaky.
- buffalofan19

thats where hopefully Quinn can be another one.. but i dont know that we have any others that can join that list and i would like more

At the end of the day, it's about who makes a bigger impact on his team. Cozens and Quinn could turn out to be just fine, but if guys like Zegras, Rossi, Lundell, etc. turn out to be better players, then it's still a miss. Just because a mistake doesn't kill you, doesn't mean it's not a mistake.
- buffalofan19

I've really been watching Cozens closely.

One thing I've noticed is his great ability to turn the puck over!

It's kind of weird because he was so good against Vegas the other night. That shot by Okposo was just bizarre. I hate to say it but the two teams were pretty even last night. Our goaltending was the difference.

The shot by Okposo hits the defenders stick. Tis why it dips so hard

I remember when drafting Samuelsson was supposedly a blunder

drafted a round apart from Dahlin... now looking like our top line for the next decade

A guy pushing 40 goals isn't in elite category?

Now I get it if you don't trust him to repeat, but imo Tage has every opportunity to be a perennial 30-35 goal scorer with those hands and that shot.

- Powerslave

And that's the key thing- those elite tools (as well as his skating) won't go away. He is by no means a one-trick pony. I would say the same of skinner - when he is on his game he is cleaning up messes in the slot. Even when he scored 40 with Jack his goals looked exactly like they do this year. He goes to the dirty areas and gets the pucks. That kind of skill travels well.

Thompson more of a 2nd line center.

Cozens is a mistake cause zegras scores nicer goals.

Cozens turn the puck over.

Rossi should of been picked over quinn cause thats what all the sites said and he is flashy.

These are truly great takes. 21 year old that turns the puck over. Who would of ever thunk it? I know what he needs…..another year of synergy.

Team is finally playing like they love the game and we want a bunch of flashy all stars that score nice goals. Sir eichel pls come back!!!

Exactly - I think that scores on most goalies. It looks like camera trickery watching the replays - I can't imagine what it was like to have it coming at me.

Wouldn’t a jump up to 93-95 points, even if it only gets you 9th in East, still be a reason to be excited about the future?

i have my doubts.. you could throw Skinner in that category too..
- SabresFaninIndiana

Jeff Skinner's resume speaks for itself. F ralph.

Tage Thompson's tallness speaks for itself. Do you think he's likely to regress after his first professional year as a center or get better?

Why do "playing like they love the game" and "being really, really good at the game" have to be mutually exclusive?

How often did you turn the puck over when you played in the NHL?

My point was that I don't believe this roster, even with the additions of guys like Peterka and Quinn are good enough to do that, not without another impact top 6 forward.

I can say with 100% certainty that I have zero turnovers in the NHL.

I think it is waaaaaaay too early to say that. Sure, we see some of the highlight reel goals that Zegras scores but that's not the whole story. Cozens has been playing a good 2-way game for us on the third line. He needs a little more finish (I think he panics a bit on breakaways) and he will be fine.
- Slump Buster

I think guys in the nhl still get "anxious " on break always, cozensons is still very young.

Despite a recent posters proclamation about players easily learning how to skate at the nhl level.....

Scoring can indeed be practiced and perfected.

Maybe ror could host a shooting camp for cozensons.
Maybe cozensons just shows for a few and moves on?

I'm fully convinced that Tuch could turn into an absolutely terrible hockey player but People would be like "But he loves it here stop complaining"

?

Is the pick considered a miss if the player fits to buffalo's culture? Better than another team?

Way to early to diss cozensons. ☝️

I'm not making a judgment on Cozens at all. It's going to be years before we find out who is actually the better player.

Matthew Tkachuk "Not worth it" I was told.......

Come on thatguy, now you're pretending you like tough power forwards that punch people in the face?

Like you were advocating for someone that hurts other players feelings on the ice.

Matthew Tkachuk absolutely fits the bill of a top 6 impact forward that the Sabres need for next year.

i meant skinner in the category of goal scorer with giraffee

speaking of giraffee, did you think he was going to regress or get better after his first season in the NHL? not everyone continues to get better therefore i am still skeptical. long term even if he keeps this up i don't think he is a 1C on a contender either

Right, I don't have any concerns about Cozens at all. I don't know what his ceiling is - I like the idea of him being a Peca-ish player (25 goals, strong 2-way player that is tough to play against and works his tail off).

I also don't agree with the claim that he turns the puck over a lot. If memory serves me his defensive fancy stats are very good.
