Did I just see a power play of Kastelic, Parker Kelly and MDZ?

A coach with not a clue in the world.

I would of done same thing specially when your PP1 can’t even get over the blue line 🤦‍♂️ Show them if ya can’t get in take a seat don’t care if you’re the best players on team 🙄
Then tierny skates it right in 🤷‍♂️ Shows them how it’s done 😂🤦‍♂️

Don't they have a power play coach? What a bizarre idea!

Kastellic and Kelly scored half the Sens goals last night. I thought it was great coaching to reward them with some power play time. I would have been happy to see Kastellic get the hat trick.

Also thought Watson played solid game.

Some brighter lights beginning to show from bottom of line up.

Interesting how Gallagher went out of his way to emphasize that Stutzle is a great young player. He said it twice. And he emphasized that he had also said it in his previous contentious interview. Stutzle says nothing. He just plays and it was obvious Montreal was desperate to keep him off score sheet.

Despite not scoring Timmy played a great game. Made me think he will be a handful for any team meeting up with the Sens in a playoff round.

Serious question.

There appears to be a group of supposed Sens supporters clustered around this blog dedicated to the singular purpose of seeing PD and DJ fired. I understand it is hard to swallow a poison pill and then change your mind.

I just find it very strange after a great lede blog comparing the young Sens and Canadiens and after a highly entertaining game and after a three game win streak and after some exceptionally good individual performances….nobody wants to offer up any positive comments.

Is the poison so deeply ingested you cannot bring yourself to enjoy a game that was so wonderfully entertaining?

As a group, we should not be happy that the comments on this thread dwindles when the Sens play well (eg., does nobody want comment on three consecutive wins.)

there is ZERO positives when it comes to DJ as a coach, he is horrendously bad and should be fired and replaced, Dorion has done some good stuff during this rebuild and some bad ones (stone trade return), Hitting a home run on Norris but he lacks the ability to trade or sign players that can help the team, we will find out if it was because of Melnyk empty pockets or his incompetency soon as new ownership comes in.

I understand people are invested in wanting changes behind the bench and front office. I’m essentially agnostic on the subject. New ownership will change the front office. And, a new front office will change the bench boss.

My concern is about the fact we have lost some good Sens fans commenting on this blog. Is it because some are merely reluctant to say anything positive?

I anticipate a bunch of positives for us over the next few months. It should be a good summer for positive and fun hockey talk.

I have been consistently positive about this team's future and the great young players already here and the ones coming. I have said that they'll start challenging for a playoff spot next year barring any unforeseen calamity. I have said that once these young D like Sanderson, Thomson and JBD get some experience and with a couple of well considered acquisitions up front, and I'm not talking 7 or 8 or 9 million dollar guys, that I think this team has what it takes to be a serious, perennial Cup contender.

That being said I also think that all of that promise could be scuttled by a coach who seems to be incapable of coaching skilled players, who seems to play favourites, which can't be a good thing, and who values hard physical play not only above all else but to the exclusion of all else. The only reason Stutzle is playing C, for example, is because every other option got injured. There is a list of good things that have happened only because Smith simply had no other choice. Injuries, trading away marginal NHL veterans who shouldn't have been there in the first place and Covid have done far more for the development of this team than Smith has. Smith is not going to change his philosophy and there is just no way to play smash and bang hockey for an entire season successfully. If you do make it to the playoffs after 82 games of smash and bang good luck with that because that's when good, well coached teams are not only going to be smashing and banging you back but their skilled players will be playing a system that recognizes and appreciates and values that skill.

We'll see how Dorion does now that Melnyk is gone, may he rest in peace, but I have to say that I'm not hopeful because he has overseen some pretty disastrous decisions.

As far as your three consecutive wins goes of course I enjoyed them but forgive me for wanting a lot more for this team than a few meaningless end of season wins and pointing out what I think may very well be the reason for it happening again next year. Don't think Smith is incapable of keeping Sanderson and Thomson mostly in Belleville next year while continuing to play the hell out of Zaitsev and MDZ and who knows what else.

It is time for dorio to be moved on asap. Smith i still have doubts about. But he will be ok for next year. As next year the situation is just try and make the playoffs or close to it. No ground breaking expectations.
Is he the coach to take it to next level after next year?

As far as beating the mtl . They should have .

The Sens can only win when they have elite goaltending. They make too many mistakes and get bailed out by great goaltending. There's no detail to their game, they can't defend (Fs and Ds), and their puck management is terrible. Beware if they start next season with average goaltending and the same coaching.

The #Sens have re-assigned goaltender Filip Gustavsson and forwards Mark Kastelic and Scott Sabourin to

.

Additionally, goaltender Kevin Mandolese has been recalled from Belleville.

100%. Anyone referring to last night's game as 'good' needs to give themselves a shake. There may have been a certain Charlestown Chiefs-level entertainment value, but objectively it was a farce of a hockey game, played between a pair of clearly non-playoff quality teams. So much so, that the 'winners' managed to get out-shot 48-26 on home ice by the 2nd worst team in the NHL, including a 16-2 embarrassment of a 3rd period shot count, and only got 2 goals from anyone likely to score again for the rest of the year. Seriously... 8 combined points for Kastelic, Watson, Kelly, and Sabourin? That's not exactly what the rebuild was about. That's 1995 stuff, when they were icing Mallette, Vial, Levins, Pitlick, and McCleary, back at the Civic Centre.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75BTAx65cM0

Don't get me wrong... having a couple of physical guys on the team to stand up for Stutzle is important, especially given how pathetic the Canadiens have been about going after him. But Stutzle wound up not even having a shot registered in the game... and the top-6 offensive players on the team only contributed 1 goal between them, and were a combined -2. People can look at it as 3 wins if they want, but they shouldn't have beaten the Canucks, the Columbus game was just bad, and if not for an offensive explosion from their grunt lines they would have lost last night. That's 3 games against non-playoff teams in April, where they barely eeked out a few utterly inconsequential points. Some may find that praise-worthy, but it's only proving to me how far they remain from serious playoff contention.

I was there.
My buddy at the starting face off says "oh look, coach giving them last change already, how nice of him".

The Guy stuff was classy and well done. Montreal fans were loud and fun as always. I always find it amazing how Hab fans can get drunk and loud and make the atmosphere fun, where as Leaf fans get drunk loud and turn into belligerent wieners. Every time.

The game played out like a JR.A game. Back and forth fire wagon hockey, full of mistakes. It made it entertaining at least.

Entertainment value 8/10
I will say that coming into a blog comment section and trying to figure out what coaches and GM's are doing at this point is really moot. Nice blog as always Kev.

Did you really just say that "skilled system played hockey" was boring? You literally just described how Stanley Cups are won. Hint: that game reminded you of watching hockey when you were younger, because it was a lineup featuring far too many fringe-NHL "grit" players, that lost its composure within a few minutes. The bottom lines scored more, because any player with a stable NHL contract knew the game was meaningless from the first puck-drop. Not to mention that most of the goals were the result of OHL-level mistakes being made all over the ice. If that's your thing, then fine... nothing wrong with having a preference for junior hockey. But it's not how you're ever going to win anything at the NHL level.

Ottawa looks like they are locked into the 7 /8 spot for the draft.

A two part question:

Who would you like them to take with this pick

Who do you think Dorion will take instead

What a fantastic response. I lol'd.
I wonder if he can pick Boucher a second time. Just to waste TWO picks on him and make sure everyone knows how bad he wanted him.
