I had no idea it was a back injury until the game just told me. So once I saw that, right away I’m thinking we’re destined to repeat this none sense next season whether Coots plays or not. Back injuries are one of the worst injuries in any sport as you enter 30.

Don’t know what the injury was exactly or what surgery he had, but it’s hard to believe he’ll be the same player he was or that he won’t continue to have problems.

#48 having a good game
- Trox88

He is. I personally would like to see Farabee on the left side with Frost and Tippett and I’d like to see Tippett playing more of a power forward role. Being that guy to who drives to the net, bring physical and creating space for Farabee and Frost.

Not a bad idea. I do think Cates has a real shot at sticking coming out of training camp. I hope they leave Frost at center next season. See if he can grow further.

I don’t think they will have the cap space to re-sign the G-man.
As much as I’m sure they would love to keep him on the team.

- Ratsreign

G is a whole new playing in Florida. If by some miracle Florida can bring him back, he’s looking like a 100 point man again next season in the right situation.

I’m not sold on Cates but I think he’ll get every opportunity to become a pain stay next season. I’m just not seeing what exactly makes him stand out from any other player.

You didn't grasp what was said. Every player has a guaranteed contract. Every player. Ellis getting paid the remainder of his contract if he doesn't play again because of injury has nothing to do with insurance. He isn't going to retire.

All I will say is this scenario isn’t impossible

I think Cates can be a useful 3rd line winger. I would hope Tippett and Brink grow into more talented wingers that could grow into a top 6 role potentially.

As I said, I don’t know what his injury was or what surgery he had, but because it’s his back and it was bad enough that he had to have surgery and it was serious enough for him to miss the whole season and he’s a 30 year old guy with a lot of miles on him my feeling is that it’s not going to be good. Hope I’m wrong.

I don't see any reason or am aware of any information to support that he won't be 100% or have any lingering effects long term.

My question with Frost is does he suck or not been developed by a trash coaching staff?

Coots might be fine but speaking for myself and all the adults I surround myself with. Our backs have been flowing us down for a decade now without surgery.

I've never seen a PP wind the puck along the wall as much as the Flyers do.

I could be completely wrong about Cates but I feel like I’ve seen this before, when a player looks good when the games mean nothing and than next he turns into a pumpkin.

I used to think that way….but after drafting 2nd over all in 2017 does it really matter enough to cheer for them to lose ? …think what might have been had the Flyers been drafting 5th over all that year.
