I could be completely wrong about Cates but I feel like I’ve seen this before, when a player looks good when the games mean nothing and than next he turns into a pumpkin. - SuperSchennBros
Matt Read got a nice little contract out of it. |

He just seems like a good young hockey player…a guy that goes to the right spot and works hard. So far so good. - landros 2
Said this 2 weeks ago. Looks at his goals. Tip ins and going to the net. He has an awareness of what to do and where to go. Not like his goals are fluke like so to speak.
How it translates going forward we shall see. No reason why at worst he cant be a productive 4th line player. One who will be cheap an under contract going forward for a few years.

No room for kids on the 4th line -- you need veteran presence and a solid 200 ft game to play on the flyers 4th line |

Yeah but this is what I’m talking about. Matt Read was probably one of the best penalty killers and defensive wingers I’ve seen come through Philly in the passed decade. Matt Read did a lot of things well, even if he wasn’t scoring. |

The problem isn't that it's your opinion. The problem is that there is no basis behind it. It's basically he had back surgery so he won't be the same. - MJL
I’m the one who suggested this. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that Coots will either go back to normal or lose a step after back surgery as he enters his 30’s. It’s pretty common. |

I have zero doubt they will bring in several meaningless vets. Just looking at who is under NHL contract now it is crowded without Cates, brink , Allison, and free agent additions.
There is no room at the inn. There has to be moves made to remove some current players with picks/prospect the return.
With all these young guys knocking on the door the GM will not know what to do imo.

No player has ever been hurt by playing for extended periods in the AHL while the NHL team is competing for the cup with grizzled vets who know how to play the game the right way

The Ellis situation is sketchy at best. He sits out the whole season after the guise that the injury isn't major and he should be back soon in the early parts of the season. The ridiculous subterfuge the Flyers constantly employ shows a lack of knowledge of the current landscape of professional sports. This isn't Slapshot and the NHL has departed ways from the 1970's era of constant brawls and reprisals. The fact that the Flyers are one of the only teams in all 4 major sports to still play this tight-lipped game is another major red flag. Another red flag is the fact that he hasn't had surgery yet. They could have gotten ahead of it, shut him down for the season and already had the surgery and started rehab. Now the Flyers are looking at the Spring and summer as a much smaller window to address the injury with surgery and rehabilitation. My guess is he ends up having surgery late summer or into next season once they realize his injury can't be rehabbed properly without it. |

What I would do is bring back everyone except Nate and Zac up front. Keep it in house. Let it play out to see what you have going forward. Do not sign any free agent forwards. If you make some hockey trades so be it as long as not for older vets.
On D exclude Ellis. I then sign a good vet who can help zamula on the bottom pair. One who can also step into a top 4 role short term.
Ivan – York
Sanheim – rr
Zamula – vet
Now keep in mind the Flyers will do none of this at all. |

This is based on nothing other than my opinion, but I don't think he wants to play here. I've never heard in all my years of watching pro sports, of an athlete deciding to take care of an injury serious enough to torpedo a whole season, with treatment. If it hasn't healed after this much time, it is not going to heal without intervention of the invasive kind. Again, just my opinion.
So, WHY?
Is it some sort of degenerative thing like Ray Emery's hip, or Forsberg's feet?

His wife is calling the shots. Can only hope she is so disgusted and he has invested his money wisely. Then she demands he mutually terminate the deal or she will divorce him.....

looks like good business decisions to me at the end of the day. They won at both ends, the business and hockey end. Got what they wanted.
Bill probably 98% of arenas/stadiums are taxpayer funded. So singling them out is meaningless. Great Snider used his own cash. Business wise was it smart?
Flyers have been and are just an inept organization. You can defend it all you want. I get that as it pays your bills. Yes they have the right intentions. Yes they also have no clue how to achieve them. This is what you should resent.
When they do a team biography, will they mention how Snider "saved" the Pens? Of course not as no one cares. 5-2 is all that matters. - hello it's me 2050 \
Now I have finally arrived at a conclusion, I REALLY don't like you.
While I am against most folks self-terminating, I can understand why you would.
It's justifiable.
You need help to resolve your free floating hatred.
I also find it painful that you make up statistics to bolster a BS point.
You are a burr under our socks. And you relish that role, a role you are not competent in.
Anyone who talks badly about the old crew, admin, or players, let alone Snyder, is wrong. While not perfect in every decision, the intent was to improve the world.
Unlike yourself they thought that was a GOOD thing to do. |

It stands to reason that if the Flyers were picking 5th and not 2nd Patrick would have been someone else’s mistake, No? - landros 2
Likely. No guarantee. It is 100% possible 3 teams could pass over him depending on their draft plan.

Considering every team gets a nominee and he came back to play through multiple injuries and losing his brother, I don't think there was a better nominee on the Flyers. Considering this award has little to do with on ice play, not sure what you're getting at here. |

Also what BS points? Can you clarify |

Please! Stop using Alison as if he's been anything short of Morin 2.0. Alisonj is not joining the Flyers until he can prove he can be healthy. Theres no log jam with just Brink and Cates. At most these are bottom 6 guys next season.
You also have no clue whos going to be moved this offseason if anyone. Fletcher might sign one big FA, he's not signing a full team via FA. He's gonna look to fill holes |
