probably why you’re 5’7” tall. Did you know the people from the Netherlands are the tallest people in the world, I think, because their diets are filled with natural foods full of nutrients? Don’t feed your kids that garbage. - LeftCoaster

I think the Maasai tribes in Africa are also very, very, tall people? Us Vikings are also tall people. Handsome too - LeftCoaster
I read a long time ago that the cattle herding tribes in Africa evolved tall to see over the herds and the bush tribes were 4 foot-ish to see under brush and navigate grown in trails. Makes sense...

Maybe, but then again…
“There is no place like a bed for confidential disclosures between friends. Man and wife, they say, there open the very bottom of their souls to each other; and some old couples often lie and chat over old times till nearly morning. Thus, then, in our hearts’ honeymoon, lay I and Queequeg—a cosy, loving pair.”
And we all know that Melville chose to use cannibalism as a euphemism for homosexuality. So you can believe that Ishmael is an imagined character but you’d be more accurate to suggest they were, in fact, lovers. - bloatedmosquito
No shortage of cannibalism among the crew in the real story. Months lost at sea. Hit land but also had to evade the cannibals on the islands as well and make a run for it.

Would I? This quote only solidifies the notion there was something more cerebral. Laying in bed imagining things is pretty commonplace. There's nothing that proves physically this is 2 people in bed. It could just be a person conversing with their thoughts to try to sleep. Insomnia. |

I think it’s awesome to have your own interpretation of a classic novel but I don’t buy it. When Ishmael and Queequeg first meet at the Spouter-Inn, Coffin the inn-keeper explains to them both that there is a shortage of beds forcing them to sleep in the same room/bed together.
It would be strange that a third person would indulge a Maori in some sort of hallucination. Plus, the narrative perspective is that of a westerner, not a Maori. I would be more accepting of your theory if you would have said that Queequeg was a figment of Ishmael’s imagination. That’s more plausible. |

I think it's cute that you're clinging to your antiquated Cliff Notes interpretation. Pay attention, my version is the kind that gets you an A in English.
The innkeeper would indulge if there was familiarity with the patron. This wasn't his first stay or sailing.
Doesn't it seem more logical that in this world Queequeg would choose the voice of an English narrator? Perhaps to compensate for an inability to succinctly express his thoughts and feelings. |

I’m quite enjoying literaturebuzz, perhaps we should have a weekly/monthly topic. It’s very educational |

Thanks Carol.
I agree, Canuck fans don’t deserve Chris “Ironman” Tanev. They never gave him the respect he deserved, and Benning listened to the fans and let him walk for free! Instead opting to chase $6 million man Sh!tty Schmidty. Now Tanev a Flames favourite is on the cusp of playing some meaningful games, something that wasn’t available much as a member of the Canucks.
Chris Tanev > any Canuck D man! - K-man25

Who says we wanted him back? lol glad he's doing ok in CGY but the country-club of injuries aside glad we moved on. To take the next step you gotta move on from Tweeners like Edler-Tanev. CGY has a deeper line up which provides some nice shelter for players like tanev. - LordHumungous

I look to the present and future not the past, what’s done is done, management has to move forward and as a fan just hope the cycle stops, all we can do is hope. |

Was fishing with a bunch of buddies who were Canuck fans when the Flames signed Tanev, they weren’t very happy but thought Schmidt would be better. Little did they know. - K-man25
That clown Nucker must have had them convinced, like he had many here convinced. |

Sure, would be nice, but who's to say that Benning would have actually picked Guenther 9th had he not made that trade? Without that trade, it's conceivable that we don't bottom out and therefore Green doesn't get fired in December and Benning manages to keep his job one more year... which means that 12.2 million in cap space literally wouldn't be utilized properly anyways so yeah... there's that. |

It's conceivable that the team would be better with Beagle, Rous, and Ericksson instead of OEL and Garland?
I think the trade was dumb, but that's funny. |
