It's not really a loophole, you're giving up prime earning years when you do that. Though now with NIL you can at least scrape something together if you go to school in a big hockey town. It's not all upside for the player. That and other teams may be wary of signing you when you publicly say you don't want to go to a certain team. What happens when your team(that signs the player) hits a rough patch? Is he going to want out right away? - Wetbandit1
By going to college they are giving up those earning years
The NHL and the teams that drafted them are not forcing them to go to school

Stupid question(s)…. If a kid gets drafted and goes somewhere but not college for a few years, does he get the option to walk away from the team that drafted him? Can he then pick where he wants to play? If not, why does only college provide that opportunity? |

There's nothing special about college players. The loophole is a myth. It's actually CHL players who have the preferential treatment.
Teams retain rights to these players for:
CHL: 2 years
NCAA: 4 years
Euro: 4 years
Russia: Indefinite

Thanks for the info. So, if a kid gets drafted, plays in the CHL two years, and doesn’t like the team that drafted him, he can go where he chooses? If not, why does college provide that option? Not trying to be a smart a$$, I just don’t know. |

Every non-Russian player has that option. It just happened to the Sabres with Brandon Hagel. Didn't sign him within 2 years, became a UFA.
They also have 3 Euro players set to become UFA on June 1, 4 years after they were drafted.
The rules don't care if the team wants to sign the player or not, that's the part that really upsets people.

I think after 2 years for CHL depending on their age they go back to the draft

That's because you can only really play in the CHL until you're 19, teams are only allowed to have 3 20 year olds, and once you hit 21 it's your last season, so retaining rights for 4 years doesn't make any sense |

Saw he has a new movie coming out this year - BeadyEyedDouche
I know David Lynch had a deal with Netflix to make a project/series called Unrecorded Night, but that fell through some time ago. If there's something else in the works I do not know about, that would make me a very happy camper.
edit: both he and David Cronenberg had projects in the works get scrapped, and word on the street is they may both see light of day from different studios. Godspeed, Mssrs. Lynch and Cronenberg. |

He's in a unique position having gone from a borderline NHL player to at the very least a 2C on almost any team at 24.
As the team I wouldn't want to sign him this offseason. We've seen guys come out of nowhere before only to fade back into semi-obscurity once they get the big deal. |

Could he have been re-drafted? I've never looked into those rules.

Don't see it that way. They can play in other leagues.
