My theory is the pizza delivery guy is actually the ring leader of the gang and he uses the pizza job as a scouting cover. He picked the house for the other two wet bandits and used his presence as a diversion from the obviously low-rent uniform Joe Pesci wore. His presence added a layer of confusion and later provided him an alibi on the night of the robbery as he was "delivering pizzas"
