Granato caught lightning in a bottle by moving Tage Thompson to center and it working out as well as it did. I don't want to bank on it twice. Moving wingers to center often doesn't work out. I realize Krebs did play more center pre-NHL than Thompson ever did, and he may likely be able to do it at this level, but I hate that idea as a "Plan A". Get another proven guy up the middle. You can be a lot more creative on the wings.

Thompson was C until he went to the USNDP program, Granato was the one who actually switched him to Wing, cause that team was so loaded.

1. A final assessment of both Joker and Mitts is not needed at this time. In another year we'll know more
2. No reason to bring Vinny back. We know that we are going to need to bring in another top 6 player and we know that we need that person to not be cheap (which will help us get to the floor next year). If we want Quinn and Paterka to be here then there isn't room for all of those bodies.

If you want to roll with that, get another top 6 center.

I still would like to see them get two top 6 forwards, but it sounds like they're going to ride or die with Quinn no matter what. Another center gives you options. Olofsson is streaky, always has been, as most perimeter players are. He's going to have dry spells. Then you can move Tuch or even Quinn back on that line when you need to change things up.

I said I wanted better options in the top 6 than him, and I still do. However, I also realize what I want, and what the Sabres are actually going to do, are different. I'm just hoping that they have a contingency plan when he disappears for 15-20 games like he has since he's been in this league.

Cap goes up $1 million next season, probably stays flat for the 2023-2024 season and then the players would have cleared off the escrow owed to the owners and then look for another increase in the cap for the 2024-2025 season.

At that time it could be a smaller increase of $1 million like this coming season, or it could jump much higher as it was increasing $2 million the season before the pandemic and $4.5 million the season prior to that.

So yes the cap will rise barring another pandemic.
