Why? - Wetbandit1
Why should you be able to get a free walk through college just to sign with whatever team you want?
What's the point of a draft then? |

Buffalo would let him walk to get a 2nd round pick if it comes to that - gerbe75pts
Am I misremembering? Wasn't Johnson a terrible pick that completed the idiotic ROR trade? Asking for a friend. |

How can you say a pick from 2 years ago is terrible? The kid has yet to touch a sheet of NHL ice.
He was selected exactly where most mocks had him

How about this, if the Sabres hadn't sucked for over a decade, probably not having these college problems. |

That's kinda why I discussed that trade, benefits both teams. - Buff36
It does seem like a perfect fit.

Terrible pick cause he hasn't signed. Kid hits his potential he is top4, definitely would make are LD stout for the next 6 to 10yrs if he didn't take Jokers job on the right. |

Where are you getting this sit out from? - Lunaion
nfl
https://www.sportskeeda.c...%20the%20following%20year.
the drafted player is allowed to hold out for as long as he chooses and reenter the draft the following year.
nba
The draft rights last for one year normally (basically until the next draft), but if he signs a contract for a non-NBA team then they last until one year after that contract expires.
mlb
A player who is drafted and does not sign with the club that selected him may be drafted again at a future year's draft, so long as the player is eligible for that year's draft. A club may not select a player again in a subsequent year, unless the player has consented to the re-selection.
every case a player must sit a year
what makes college players above those rules?

When this pick was made, everyone on this Board (loosely, everyone so did don't get your panties in an uproar about that comment), were vocal about that was crappy pick and it had NOTHING to do with ROR.
There was a lot of hate for Johnson. |

I'm usually not one to crab about primetime games, but I would much rather the Bills game that week just be a Christmas Eve afternoon game.

The question is why do you "owe" the team that drafted you?
I personally think the rights shouldn't expire at all. The NHL team tenders the player an ELC and after the current length of time where the rights are protected whether it's college, Junior, or overseas you should be able to sign anywhere, but it's like an offer sheet. Everyone wins in that situation. |

Uhm cause they made the selection for you... The player deserves nothing. Especially not just choosing whatever team cause they held out for 4 years. Its a loophole. |
