He can demand a trade if that's true. But no team is trading for a guy with his contract if he can't prove he's totally healthy. So refusing to play or refusing to get treatment is not going to help him get out of Philly, if that's actually his goal.
- Feanor

Reminds me of Bryzgalov who made out like a bandit even though he was mentally unstable even before the flyers signed him to, I think, the largest goalie contract in history at the time.

https://www.nbcsports.com...alovs-contract-worst-ever

Bryz got out of Philly and made more money doing so than he would've by playing here even though he was making top dollar here.

Different circumstances at the beginning because Bryz came willingly once the bags of cash got high enough but they may end similarly with the Flyers paying them to go away.

He was also brought in despite numerous red flags because he was the guy they wanted.

yeah no athlete has ever not wanted to play in a particular place. What is anyone thinking otherwise.

I am sure he will be one of the player trying to pitch JG to play for the flyers.

Can we really believe that because Ellis doesn't want to play here that he is putting off treatment or surgery and putting his career on hold? I'm not buying that.

I struggle with that angle, too.

the only fun we Philly fans have, Pens, the sky is falling, snip from their blog

As for the actual analysis the Penguins are clearly struggling at the moment. There are limitations with the roster. It is the reality of having no farm system or draft picks. We all knew the late stage Crosby/Malkin era would have its hurdles to overcome. Something that does not have to happen is the coach not maximizing the ability of the players available. The line construction from last night was remarkably inept.

So people think Ellis is essentially pulling a Ben Simmons? I guess it’s possible. That jackass proved pro athletes know no bounds to get what they want.

Bryz did not make more money by leaving Philly. When he was bought out in June 2013, he was owed $34,500,000 over the next seven years.

Instead, the Flyers are paying him $23,000,000 over 14 years. With inflation and the time value of money that's a considerable real pay cut.

Bryz signed two more NHL deals. $2m with Edmonton in 13-14 one month into the season. And then $2.88m with Anaheim in 14-15. But his deal with the Ducks only lasted a few months before it was terminated early. So he would have been lucky to get half of that money.

But what would be the reason for Ellis to do this? Did he want to play this season and was he held out purposely? It's possible I guess.

This is a "smoke/fire" situation IMO.

He isn't being misdiagnosed by some free clinic intern as has been suggested. They know what is wrong, he knows what is wrong. He doesn't want to be here. Plain and simple.

If I am completely wrong about this, both the player and the Flyers need to get out in front of it or this guy is going to be a pariah in this town. Every time he makes a mistake on the ice the whole city is going to come down on him like a ton of bricks.

I already don't like him and he has only played 4 games for us. At least Risto acts like he wants to be here and plays hard.

- MBFlyerfan

It has nothing with him not wanting to be here. That is 100% fake. Whether he wants to be here or not he is signed under a contract. He cant just choose to sit out because he doesnt want to play, its a breach of his contract. If he didnt want to be here theres nothing stopping Fletcher from terminating his contract. If he didnt want to be here why would he have returned for 1 game and then gone out again? Not to mention he played through training camp and few games into the season

It is 100% an injury and no one is saying he's being treated by an intern. The fact is even the best doctors in the world are wrong. A doctor's first diagnosis is rarely right, the first diagnosis is often done to narrow down the issue and rule out possibilities. Most symptoms people have are common for many different things. No one is saying that they dont know what the issue is, just suggesting it is a possibility which makes more sense than Ellis not playing because he doesnt want to be here.

Simple fact is, if he didnt want to be here, he could do what every other player in the league does and ask for a trade. The fact that there is secrecy around the injury and frustration between him and the medical staff hints towards either not know the exact issue or treatments not working.

We got no info on couturier either until he was going to have surgery.

After what I have seen from the young players this past month, I really hope Fletcher does very little this off season and gives the kids a chance to play a full season and see what we have here. Given JVR has 20+ goals for one of the worst teams in the league with the worst PP in the league should enable Fletcher to trade him this off season by covering some of his salary to make the trade happen.

It does seem out of character for a guy who, as far as I know, has always been a leader and good teammate. However, I can see someone having a lack of trust in the Flyers management and medical team. I know I'd want out of there until they got things settled.

It might just be as simple as he really just doesn’t want to get surgery. At his age however he’s only losing time off his playing days. He’s got to make some sort of move soon I would think.

This is the current leading theory?

He's injured but more importantly really doesn't want to play here so he's faking/delaying injury treatment/cure so that he can be traded somewhere he wants to play.

I've only heard that he's been sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ryan pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.
