You could say that about Murphy, McCabe and deHaan. Probably the worst top 4 D in the league.
- LAHawk

I get so tired of them chasing a guy along the boards, behind the net and they keep following to the other side, then the opponent has both dmen out of position. I guess at least they aren't chasing them out to the blue line now, progress

Kane:
"I was able to get myself ready for every game, and I give the training staff a lot of credit, but it was probably not where it needed to be. There's certain things on the ice that you feel limited with. I'll just try to correct that before next year."

Kane said there are some possible procedures that might help, but "I don't think that's anything we're talking about right now."

Patrick Kane, unprompted, on DeBrincat:

"Obviously I've developed some chemistry with DeBrincat over the years. If he's here and he's a big piece, then that makes it easier for me too, right? Because I'm playing with him every day...and it makes it fun to be out there with him."

The Blackhawks’ injured guys — Dach, Murphy, Entwistle and Khaira — are practicing with Delia right now. This is the first time we’ve seen Khaira in months.

What a pretty pass to the Cat. Constantly torn between wanting Kane to stay here, retire a Hawk, and become our all time leading scorer and knowing that's probably not what's best for him or for the team moving forward. I'm guessing he feels the same way.

Everyone and their siblings say that the Hawks have next to zero talent in the system. Yet, the Hogs made the playoffs. Coach must've done ok.

Mohel

C'mon Mohel. all the Hawks have to do is hire Trotz, because of the "system" and the Hawks are Cup finalists. I bet if they would hire Trotz, Kane would ask to be traded.

BTW looks like the system failed the Isle this year, or was it the players?

- LAHawk

Don't we want Kane to be traded, for all that glorious cap space? It wouldn't surprise me if they dealt him with his permission next deadline, unless they extend him over the summer.

I think they should hire Trotz if he becomes available. But as you suggest, they have to have enough talent that can be developed before they are going to do anything approaching a Cup final.

At this stage of his coaching career do you think Trotz is going to want to coach a 5 year reclamation project? I don't

But then he could do what he couldn't in Nashville - take an "expansion" team to the Stanley Cup.

He was long gone before Nashville was in the finals

I Do think its possible that they trade kane this off season or at the deadline and maybe he comes back on at 3-4 EXT. if that was the case it would probably make more sense closer to the TDL were he would not have to move the family for the 3 months or so.

i don't think Kane would go to Boston. He would do the Panarin, I only want to go to the Rangers. I don't even think he would want to go anywhere out west either.
- LAHawk

Yes IMO there are few locations where he would waive. Most likely Eastern teams like NYR as you mentioned or back to his home town of Buffalo.

I put the odds of him staying at 90%-10% and the odds of him signing an extension with Chicago the same. I really think his goal is to surpass Mikita as all time franchise point leader.

That makes sense, and if he signs for 3 to 4 more years and at the end of that contract (he would be 37), if he wants one more cup, the Hawks could grant his wishes then.

But when the prospects play in the NHL, they can't seem to take the next step. Coaching staffs at NHL level and AHL level need to be on the same page. Just look how "well" the system has produced players at the NHL level the past 5 years. Look at other teams ...... their prospects come through and are making bigger impact at the NHL level. Maybe they're ok. Simply not good enough

Could it be the Hawks rush a Dach and Bovquist, while the Islanders let Dobson and Wahlstrom marinate in the A until they are ready?

That would also put him in Brett Hull territory and I think that is his ultimate goal.

That's a different debate. He'll be 60 this summer. Torts is four years older. Claude Julien is two years older. Babcock (God forbid) is a year younger. Crawford is a year older. Vigneault is a year older. There haven't been too many new names in coaching. De Boer might get canned if Vegas misses, and he's about six years younger. So who else is young enough and either available or maybe about to become available?

Dobson did not play in the AHL.

Wahlstrom has played 50 AHL games and underwhelming though hasn't played a full NHL season yet either so he may just need more reps. Probably adjusting from being a bigger strong faster player to being the same size and speed as everyone.

And it sounds as if Kane is campaigning to have Debrincat along side him for a few more years. With them together, 88 will continue to pile up the points.

Two sides of the coin here. Having them both around will be entertaining (and help sell tickets), but with them staying a lot less futures would be acquired to replenish the system.

About 200 points to surpass Brett for most points by an American, and about 300 points to surpass Stash for most points by a Blackhawk.

Edit: And Hull played til he was 40.

He is campaigning for Strome also, Hawks are a one line team now, might as well be a one line team next year I guess

Paul Maurice
Rick Tochett
Doug Weight
Dan Bylsma
Michel Therrien
Mike Yeo

Not much to choose from. Maybe Tochett. Or an up and coming assistant.

Count me all in on keeping Kane, DeBrincat and Strome as a bridge during the rebuild.
Pretty sure Kane will NOT have a pay cut on his next contract, either.

I don't know how Yeo still gets jobs in the NHL after the Blues fired him for the disastrous start and then won a Cup. I'm not excited about this list, either.
