you have options
I am sure you and your wife could make a good living in thunder bay and afford a house
life is about choices, and you only have 1 life
I have great friends in NY and family
the job market in WNY was pretty bad as well as high property taxes in the early 90's so I moved
I still see my friends and family in NY 1 or 2 times a year, made new friends down here, etc, etc etc - homiedclown
When I graduated I had a choice move back to WNY and take a job for half what I was offered in Indiana or move away from all my family and try it on my own. I like to think I made the right choice.

what you do when you are 25-45 will really determine what kind of life you have on the back 9
the biggest issue, and nobody want to talk about it
the world is getting lazy
uber eats
door dash
pay someone to cut your yard
pay someone to clean your house
pay someone to do your taxes if you do not have a business
etc
etc
etc
how many 20 somethings need that $1500 phone every year, $60,000 truck and $300 a month cable bills?
throw something in a crock pot before you go to work
cut your own dam yard
scrub your own toilet
buy your own groceries at the store
$150 phones work great and you are not entitled to a big truck, showtime and every ppv ufc fight - homiedclown
I’m not disagreeing with the overall view point.
If a person makes optimal budgetary decisions though, it doesn’t solve the fact that even with a household income of $150K most won’t get approved for a mortgage for a $700-800K property.
Even if they do, they will devote a majority of their income to mortgage payments and have how much for utilities and prices at the pump ?
I shouldn’t have to move 17 hours for a property, and what would people in more strenuous circumstances have to do to be able to make a living for themselves ?

I would pay good money to see Gen X and boomers have to start over at age 25 and try to make a living in this environment they created. - Pegullaville
humans as a species are adaptable. they'd be able to do it just like you and I. just because they had low costs of living and low wages doesn't mean we need to criticize them for not having high wages and even higher costs of living.
what is this conversation anyway. let's stop pretending one generation is somehow better than another.

at the same breath
your not entitled to live in LA, Toronto or NYC if you can't afford it
I am not going to do the candian conversion but in america
if you have 2 car payments on 30 k cars
5 credit cards with 15 grand on them
living in the $1500 apartment
you would have roughly 2000 extra a month if you had blah cars, so so apartment and cut up the credit cards
do that for 3 years and you can afford that 300-400k
house and eventually get a nice used car or 2

Every generation goes through challenges. Cost go up as more resources are chewed up and more demand is made. More people living on the planet, drives everything and drives prices up and up as we consume more.

This is such a cop out. I am a millennial but an older one. I worked all through highschool (saved my money) graduated with enough to go to a private college and only have to get like a 15k student loan to graduate. Took a job making decent money away from everyone I knew and worked my way up in the company. I now employ all these kids that try to tell me what they are going to do each day and only complain about hours the day after they get their paycheck.
