All things considered - Better goalies, larger bodies, more emphasis on actual defense...

Was Roman Josi's season this year one of the best ever by a defenseman? The most points by a defenseman in 30 years, at the age of 31, on a team known for organizational defense... Yeah, scoring was up this year but seriously 96 points in 80 games? On a team that finished 8th in their Conference?

Could he seriously be considered for the Hart or is the Norris Trophy just the defenseman Hart?

- BeadyEyedDouche

in 15-16 Karlsson had 82 points, finished 9th in hart

18-19 burns had 83 points, zero votes for hart
giordano had 74 points, finished 9th for the hart that year

so I guess the hart is for forwards and goalies only, unless your named pronger or orr in the last 75 years

Yeah all of those are a lot different than 96 points, though. And it was the most by a defenseman since Ray Borque 30 years ago. On a team that has never had a 40-goal scorer until this year, where they had two. Because of Josi.

Again, all things considered. Era, skill and size of goalies, skill and size of competition... Even a goon in today's NHL could skate circles around us in a pickup game and score 5 goals on a pickup league goalie.

All of this. I miss it, I could be getting by, but I wouldn't be better off. It's sad, really. Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany - All poor satellite burrows to NYC, which is unlivable in it's own way these days.

I loved WNY. I now live in flat corn fields of Indiana. Don’t get me wrong I like it here too. But the fact that I have a more expensive house (barely) than my brother and he pays two to three times as much in taxes. I could also never make as much as I do doing what I do in WNY.

I went through a lot of growing pains in the early 30's

wife had 40 k worth of debt she brought into the marriage that I was unaware of, 10 became 40 and mom and dad did not pay for wedding stuff she said they did, etc, etc, etc

many 80-100 weeks during those 10 years to clean up mess and be in position for paid off house by the time I was 45

I haven't spent much time except the interminable drive through Ohio on the way to Indiana, and a trip to Cedar Point and RRHoF

It's like Florida and Texas had a lovechild and didn't want it and dropped it off at an orphanage in the Midwest and no one adopted it and now it's just sitting here screaming into the wind "HEY GUYS MY ECONOMY IS SUPER GOOD WHY DON'T YOU LIKE ME?" as it cuts across two lanes on the highway with no turn signal and flies into that one car length that's open between you and the car in front of you, almost causing a 50 car pileup before swiftly merging all the way back to the right in front of a semi, again with no directional, because that's the exit they wanted. And it goes nowhere. And then Ohio goes home and wonders why no one likes it here. And then it cries itself to sleep in it's Ohio State bed set.

I’m a MD. Moved to Alabama for school, Ohio for residency and back to Alabama for work. I would make 60-70% of my salary if I returned to Buffalo and with a family and loans just couldn’t justify it.

Ohio actually wasn’t that bad for me. Low COL, plenty of big cities and lots of country. Has some similarities to upstate, just more vanilla. Columbus and Cincinnati are pretty cool places to live. Cleveland is a dump tho.

I'm in CBUS. I honestly liked Dayton better. Reminded me more of upstate NY cities like Rochester especially.

Everyone in Columbus is a rude brute with no manners. COL is definitely low, jobs pay a lot and it's centrally located but driving is a nightmare and it's a very poorly planned city. It just cannibalizes everything around and builds for the sake of building, it seems like.

It's a very green city, though and it has anything you could ask for consumer-wise.

I drove past it lol but doubt I'll ever get down to see it

I thought downtown Dayton was pretty chill. Wide streets, very walkable, and a lot bigger than I expected. I think that's Buffalo's biggest issue, is not having a walkable downtown area. It's just brutal and desolate in downtown Buffalo and you have to drive all over the place to get from spot to spot.

The coolest part about Buffalo is that it's more of a really big town than a small city. It's also the worst thing about it, too. Compared to Buffalo, Rochester feels more like a small city, and the downtown is way more walkable and enjoyable because of it. The area around the Genesee brewery alone puts anything in Buffalo to shame, imo.

It's sad honestly. Buffalo is 100% a driving town and if you live there, 3 months of biking but even then, it's so spread out that you're spent in an hour or two.

I rasied it the rate my cost went up

down here texas companies buying every house they can

apartments go up 250 a year when they sign the new lease, so a 2 bedroom that went for a grand in 2020 is now 1500

house rentals going up the same rate

gonna force a lot of people back into trailers down here
