Ok…..

None of that has anything to do with my post about corporate greed vs supposed inflation though

But to your post….
I again say, “hooray for capitalism”
Gotta love that free market, right?

The ironic part of the whole thing is the boomer/Gen X generation had enjoyed the easiest of living circumstances yet this will be the first time in the history of human kind where the following generation of people will have a lower standard of living and quality of life as the one previous to it.

A lot of finger pointing to the millennial and Gen Z’s but last time I checked we didn’t raise ourselves.

Yeah, I’d love to have had 4 kids by 25, my wife not work, and housing be 1-2x the average income per capita like back in the day. Talk about a participation medal 😂

Nah, millennials got saddled with tons of student debt to try and obtain jobs that are in few supply, and now get to deal with asset hyperinflation because of the 50-70 year olds in charge with fiscal policies apparently skipped their freshman year macroeconomic classes.

Now we get to entrust the same brain trust that created hyperinflation with ensuring we have a “soft landing”. Negative GDP in Q1 and they plan to hike interest rates in May and June. Bold strategy cotton, we’ll see how it pays off.

We will see the worst financial crash since The Great Depression though thanks to death by paper cuts since going off the Gold Standard in the Early 70’s. We may be already in it, unless the Fed reverses course and kicks the can down the road. Either way, it’s inevitable.

So don’t give me this 12th place ribbon crap when your generation is about to Frank the next 6 generations that come after it due to your bull crap

I would pay good money to see Gen X and boomers have to start over at age 25 and try to make a living in this environment they created.

All this belly aching, holy christ!

I bought my first house circa late 1981...at 16.5% interest rate.
Pmt was around $750 / month with Taxes and Insurance... $9,000 a year
I was making $17,500 year.

Real men find a way instead of blaming the previous generation.
Go find your safe spot to cry.

Fair enough but how much did you have to put down?

20% on a modest $200k house is $40k. Tough to save up that much money when you're paying off student debt, paying rent and just living.

I had student debt too. Paid for 4 years of college at Canisius myself...but, admittedly living at home...student loans of $14,000 back 40 years ago. I worked 40 hours a week and went to school. From that earnings, I saved my down payment. I put 10% down ($3,750)... which was alot back then...just doesn't look like when discussed w/o context.

it 's all relative, that is my point. Real men figure it out...where's the opportunity instead of crying in their milk.

US inflation calculator says $3750 in 1981 is $11,860.00 today. That's far more doable than a $40k downpayment (if you can find a house for $200k), and in many cases you need an all cash offer just to be competitive.

It's tough out there. I finally bought a house at 29 but in all likelihood I wouldn't have been able to without outside circumstances conspiring to make it happen

There is a lot of truth to this. Every generation thinks they have it worse, and the previous generation thinks they were better. Rinse, repeat.

Also, this country has waaaaaay over-valued people owning homes. Yeah, it's tough to come up with tens of thousands of dollars but that's life. That's also true of so many other things.

Point taken, but you won't find a seller anywhere (or a bank to lend you the money) with $11,500.00 down. You need 4-5x that to get in the ballpark of a winning offer.
