Probably not, but not addressing the goaltending in a meaningful way I’d say is not doing the bare minimum and by his comments of being comfortable with Anderson and UPL that’s a distinct possibility

Also the comments on the top 4

They absolutely should look to upgrade from Jokiharju if they can. And I firmly believe Jokiharju is a fine 5-6 D man

Considering UPL is again injured long term id say he's all but lost as a long term solution.

I see the dig you're making, but generally speaking, I don't think their intentions are to move backwards like this. If they do, I'd be highly surprised and it would contradict KA's direction.
- TheSabresTaco

Honestly it wasnt even a dig.

It was linking back to gerbes if VO never gets injured he in Calgary.

ironic coincidental response to boss then I suppose.

But he's "Building". He believes in a strong pipeline and I think he believes in this collection of guys, very much. They're not stupid, they know they have a distance to go.

Defense for next year, I'd like to see:

Samuelsson-Dahlin
Power-Trade/RFA/UFA
Bryson-Joker
D'Larry

Goalie must absolutely be addressed. I don't think that's a question among a single person here.

Go trade for Ethan Bear or Zach Whitecloud. He'd crush it with Power.

It feels good to finally have a long term look at our defense, and not just cobbling together a bunch of knobs with ristolainen.

Let's all take this time to thank Jason Botterill, for acquiring almost the entire 2022 defense via roster/coaching incompetence and draft competence.

I've never really appreciated this line of thinking.

"Trying to win" with this group of guys simply means your reaching for short term fixes that damage your long term vision. While that can be achieved to a point, responsibly, going all out every year is a gamble at best and extremely inadvisable at worst, for this particular team. Yeah I guess we can start trading young core guys. Or, you can build with what you have, responsibly add to it, addition by subtraction and build a long term team like most of these guys in the playoffs.

This team should aim to be the Hurricanes. An elite committee team built mostly by young and drafted players. Adams needs to add when the time is right. Depending on the player, that could be July 2022, 2023 or 2024.

So of course you try to win. They tried all year to win. My only demand is to provide a goalie tandem to allow the rest of this team a chance every night.

.very good post

I'm loving this young core, no need to rush this group.

Sabres need a top 15-20 type goaltending duo next season for a playoff chance.

Some posters want to rush and fire the gm for not rushing the rebuild? Not happening ☝️

Not exactly what he is saying.

The Sabres need to be trying to win next year.

Anything less, should be considered by fans a fireable offense.

Peguals wont, but as an Org they need to try and ice a winning product.

IE If you get seasons next year, but then they Trade VO and another player for futures (Draft picks) it shouldnt sit well with you.

- ImThatGuy

I'm not sure if your speaking for 24, but I agree with your post.

I'm a Sabres fan and extremely happy with the current stategy, which involves trying to win.

My interpretation was 24, wanted to make moves to force a winning record and if not, KAGM, should be fired.

No way they are tanking, we can agree on that correct?

I think the fear is a goaltending duo of Anderson and UPL, a cheap low impact veteran D, and another Boychuck or 2 to meet the cap floor type offseason.

They don't need to rush the rebuild, but doing the bare minimum above would be most discouraging.

I haven't had a chance to listen yet. Anderson is unacceptable to me.

I'd like to see a hockey trade and some sign that KA isn't completely content with this group, but I expect to be disappointed.

Absolutely agree

I really have high hopes for upl. If he puts together a solid playoff run in Rochester, he earns a roster spot on the big club.
Hopefully he looks spectacular and definitely earns a spot next season.

As for Anderson, I really can't see him being anything more than a 30 game 1B guy.

Quick or kuemper, plus upl gives you the
Win now
Develop later

Prime combo for this organization IMO

UPL might not see any playoff games this season. He is hurt again. Bad collision not his fault but he is getting that reputation of not being able to stay healthy.

Yup.

Update from Coach Appert: Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen’s injury is not short-term — at least 1-2 weeks — so he’ll be out for the play-in series.

Thompson
Krebs
Cozens
Mitts
Tuch
Power
Dahlin
Samuelsson

Im all about trading that Vegas Pick.

Teams will want that.

- ImThatGuy

I’ll keep that and trade Florida pick with Johnson and Mitts/VO

3 of those pieces could get you a nice player

UPL earned a roster spot for the second half of this season.

Next year is his final waiver-exempt season. It's time to see what he's got.

That's tough news to hear, I had no idea.

Strange, because I learned quite a bit about generational differences and the housing market up north this afternoon......

Who's starting?

If Johnson is determined to go to UFA, I wouldn’t think he’d have any trade value.

Part of me wants them to, just to find out for sure if it's 63 or 65.

the easy path for the nhl, since it was the last pick in the first round make it the last pick in the second round

It makes sense, but the rule states otherwise. Always possible they tweaked it at some point, especially with an expansion team added.

Any chance Samuelson could spend the entire off-season learning to play right handed! That would be great.
