Sure cause he is the problem. How about we find 3 or 4 dmen before we worry about the 4th line.
Our best d is Sanheim who is pro a 4 on a good team and prov has not played good hockey in forever but sure let’s rip the 4th line - JoeNardone
Dismissing an area of the team that is an issue because you think there are bigger issues makes zero sense. As if they shouldn't look to improve the team in all areas. I guess an NHL franchise can't improve the defense and the 4th line in the same off season. |

Can you really count on Allison for anything at this point? |

So instead of adding to our defense we’re trading Provorov, because you’re butthurt over him being butthurt. Makes sense.
Welcome to silly season. - hereticpride
I feel that Provy's statement was taken out of contest and cropped to suit the narrative. I do not believe he was malicious toward reporters, and he actual was pretty tough on himself.
Trading him after this season might be a big error, but would not surprise with this organization |

And the mystery continues
What the hell is the deal w this question.. - Joe Nardone
If Seattle gets at least 1 point, they move ahead of the Flyers in terms of overall standings and thus the Flyers move to the 3rd pick before the lottery. The significance of this is it guarantees the Flyers will pick no lower than the 5th pick, so its important. If we are going to have a horrible season like this, the least we can get out of it is a top pick in the draft. |

Come on Kraken wtf - hereticpride
Doesn’t matter. Flyers luck. If Seattle wins the ping pong balls will fall where pick #1 goes to slot 4. If Seattle finishes in 3rd and Flyers 4th, the Devils at 5 will get ping pong luck and #1. So let’s all just ask ourselves “does it really matter in the end given our luck?” |

Down 0-1 Seattle scores 3 unanswered goals and then gives up 3 unanswered. Of (frank)ing course.
We are in the 4 spot and I believe there’s something like a 44% a chance we end up picking 5th. |

Clear tank by Seattle. Doesn’t even pull goalie until :45 left even with possession of puck. Well played. Too bad philly wasn’t as competent |

If the worst case scenario is the 6th pick, book it. That’s what they will get |

Toronto. One of the best teams in the league, deploys Simmonds and Clifford as their fourth line. Minnesota traded for a top fighter in the league. I agree they should improve the team, but I’m all for a very tough style player that’s in your face and will answer the bell. The Flyers sorely lack this, one of the softest teams in the league. We both agreed a while back a player like josh Andersen would have been perfect. |

Our final lotto odds are as follows:
1st 9.5%
2nd 9.8%
3rd 0.0%
4th 15.4%
5th 44.9%
6th 20.5%
So really it’s just about 80% we pick 4-6. I’ll take it but certainly would’ve been nice to see Seattle help us out today.
Right now I’d have to guess it goes Wright, Slafkovsky, Nemec 1-2-3. So we should be able to come away with Cooley, Jiricek, Savoie or Nazar. |

I want a good hockey player first and foremost. I don't place much value in fighting.

Well we don’t really have anyone who plays in your face, physical, tough hockey. Laughton, if he qualifies. This team is as vanilla as they come. |

I want the team to play hard on the puck and in physical battles but it's important to have a team that can make plays and attack offensively. Gone are the days of having a player in the lineup just because he brings a physical element. MacEwen skates his balls off and plays hard every shift. He just can't play. |

Unfortunately those issues are much harder to fix though. That’s most likely going to be through the draft the next few years. At least try and make a hockey trade to make this team tougher to play against. Honestly what do we have, a bunch of potential middle 6 guys? And that’s being generous. |

Thanks - amazing how tough it is to get hockey coverage in this market. I actually had to go to a Seattle paper to confirm.
Appreciate the response regardless. |

Turning the team around really should be defined. If they don't do anything this off season but get healthy. They will likely be better. For some that will qualify for turning the team around. The question is can the GM build a cup contending team? I don't think he can and for me, that is what would qualify turning the team around. To be clear, I don't expect it to happen in one off season. (Sorry Dave Scott) Fletcher couldn't do it in 12 years in Minnesota. |

Understood and fair pt, but resigning MacEwen is the least of our issues. At least he knows his role and does it. I have no issue with him on the 4th line. Brown too. In a perfect world they are your 12th and 13th guys.
The world needs ditch diggers too and so does the NHL. Our pp has been terrible for years (even w g and jake - sorry unrelated but still true). Our pk sucks too so if you tell me you’d rather have guys who can help on special teams, but suck 5 on 5. .. I’m all ears to have them roam around out there on the 4th line for 6 - 5 on 5 mins a night.
Regardless, a physical presence does matter and the flyers have been soft for a long time. Gone are the days we would fill up the back half of our lineup w goons. Those only flyers ways have been in the rear view for a long time and resigns MacEwen does mean there is a resurgence it just means he fills a necessary role which he does. It’s pretty clear here don’t value physicality cause it’s been a while since we have had a run in the playoffs where you better have guys that will man up and play the right way.
On most nights we can go into the corner with a carton of eggs and not break any. More importantly we have only one guy interested in clearing the porch, but his coverage in his end is no better than anyone else’s back there.
I agree there are many holes to attack simultaneously, but resigning or not resigning MacEwen does not move the needle for me either way. |
